the commodity of the future edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

up until robinhood started trading crypto too these threads were specifically for it, the website was always in the OP

it was assumed that most in the thread were using it, unless they had 5 figures or more to invest with

the number of users of other brokers on here seems to have increased as time goes on

not sure if its because people found better brokers
or if RH users lost it all and cashed out
or if more new people here start with something besides robinhood

RH is great if you use something else to chart and TA

i have no idea how anyone could invest using only robinhoods graphs though, or at least do that without losing money overall

ive also heard of people joining an actual broker, then using that to TA, but using rh to actually buy and sell, putting no actual money into the other broker (or nothing besides required minimum anyways)

Not for a while. It depends on how federal legalization plays out. Seems to be slippery slope in that direction going, and you'll almost certainly see candidates running with fed legal on their platform for the next election. The thing to look out for is solid progress towards fed legal followed by Constellation Brands exercising warrants and taking majority control of Canopy. That's when things get fun.

Canopy is hanging around lower trend line at the moment. Not a bad time to buy if you want to go long right now, however, I think it will drop down to around $41(CAN) again to test the trend a final time before breaking out of the descending triangle.

Thoughts on EMMBF? 3rd highest revenues in Canada I believe, they have a deal with APH to supply weed and are focused on value added products. To give an idea of possible short term profit:
Current stock is at $17.40 per
Has a target price of $65 per (right now)

Drug is not even selling in vast qualities yet; that comes later at a nice 2.5 billion profit by 2021.

I have right now 50 shares. 50 x 65 equals out to a nice $3,250.00. But I think that target price will be hiked once the drug starts selling in waves or a buyout offer is put on the table. $80 per is not out of reach. This also doesn't factor in if I buy more shares down the road. Profit is coming to me, thanks to Amarin.

I wonder if there is a way to use volume*price or volume*derivative of price to calculate a stocks true "momentum" (analogous to physical equations, like impulse-momentum equation, or true force equations) (volume is roughly analogous to mass? or would it be momentum? or would it be impulse? or would it be analogous to force?)

Is it shear thickening or thinning?
>with spontaneous entropy generation in any finite volume.
Duh, do you even second law?

The better question is, is a stock's current price analogous to position, or velocity? Or is the price itself a second order or higher derivative?

Can a price per time graph be made into a coherent path function? Or is our time domain the markets version of a frequency domain?

Or is price movement more analogous to real non-ideal gas law temperature?

A couple years ago I fooled around with trying to take the discrete fourier transform and inverse dft of stock price histories. I didn't find anything useful. i have the day off so i plan on testing that very thing on afterhours/premarket hours to estimate open price, or mean price of the next day

im not sure how well it would work long term the more i look at it, because whose to say 30 days is a big enough period to get a good result, or 30 years, or even 30 decades of stock data

I imagine finding the right period to analyse to get meaningful results might be even harder to do than getting the data into a program to solve for the sum of functions and getting meaningful data back out

but it might just work for "imaginary" market times (time between market close and market open)

im excited to finally have .csv files of real market data to play around with

>I imagine finding the right period to analyse to get meaningful results might be even harder to do than getting the data into a program to solve for the sum of functions and getting meaningful data back out
If you know how to code, numpy and scipy have a lot of nice functions built into them for doing fourier analysis. Pandas will make it super simple to parse your csv file. Experimenting with the time period will require brute force trial and error. Back when I tried looking into this, I used time periods ranging from about a month up to a couple of years.

In addition to working with the raw prices, you may also to try doing a fourier analysis on the price's derivative, the logarithm of the price, or the convolution of the price history and some filter. As I said earlier, I already tried working with the raw prices and didn't find anything useful. This conversation has me wanting to try again... I may spend my weekend revisiting this.

This reminds me of when I tried to run FFT on the log of prices, filter out "unstable" high frequencies w/ a lowpass (my theory being that fluctuations in price over a small period of time is bullshit information), send it back through IFFT, and try to predict the future.

Unfortunately that didn't work lol. The stock market is random and inefficient.

the price you see on the exchange is a discrete measurement but the market flow is continuous. it's why stock prices can't go below zero but a company can still have negative value through debt. zero is just the lower bound of your instrument.

I know basics but not fluent in any script

but i have matlab and some programs I wrote for it already, so fourier analysis is easy

the real challenge will be finding useful results, and finding a good way to incorporate volume into the analysis somehow

Alternatively, it is possible that the price movements on short timescales are caused by market psychology and prone to oscillating while price movements on long timescales are caused by news events and therefore not prone to oscillating. If that is the case then applying a lowpass filter was a huge mistake.

*Wait for it to bottom
