I'm 27 and getting sick of being a wagie. How do I get enough money to have a 3 bedroom house and support a family without working 40 hours a week?

Has anyone from this board actually made it bros?

a buddy of mine did pipeline inspections for gas companies that were fracking. he had a eureka moment, quit his job, created a ' pipeline testing certification' class, and set up shop in a strip mall.

the entire certification course is just some booklet he typed up based on the instruction manual from his job, then a bubble sheet multiple choice test at the end of the course.

he then called up all the gas companies in the area and asked them if they'd like their inspectors to be 'certified'. almost every company he called thought it was a great idea.

they now send all of their testers and new hires to his certification course. it costs each person $3k and he has two classes of about 15 people a month.

he's fucking loaded now and mostly just plays ps4 in his office all day.

Moving is a definite no as my parents are helping pick my son up from daycare every day (and helping with expenses). I could look into a new job but I've been working this one for years and I like it a lot. I guess it's just me being comfortable though. I should probably work a job I like less that makes more money or is closer.

With a shorter commute you would have time to pick your son. And you can surely find something closer to home. Even in the same field. Even if it was a 45 min commute, you would still be getting 1.5 extra hours of life a day.

>> No.11923159

That's true, and it's something that's been in the back of my mind ever since my company announced there would be no raises this year. It's a shame, because management is very kind and relaxed and I never feel any pressure. However, I do feel like I'm wasting my time. I guess it's time to rebuild that resume. I will definitely stick around here until the annual bonus hits in March.

>> No.11923174

>>11922940
I have the same commute as you, but I'm making almost twice as much as you at 86k. I still feel pretty bad about it but you definitely have it a lot worse. I read somewhere that every 20 minutes to your commute adds as much misery as a 19% pay cut.

If I were you I would probably rent somewhere close to work while your parents take care of the kids in your primary home, use the extra time you get to learn extra skills to be able to move up and get pay raises

>> No.11923217

Everyone seems to imply that my life is sad or miserable. I'm not unhappy - my kid makes every moment of my life worth it. I have motivation, something I never had before I had a child.

Renting two places is out of the question. I could rent closer to work and just have him at a daycare nearby. That would eliminate the pressure I'm putting on my parents, which is something I want to do ASAP.

>> No.11923356

>11923159
I'm saying that you should start looking yesterday and make a spreadsheet. When you are offered a job, you check the opportunity cost. You can even leverage that March bonus to get a enrollment bonus with the new company. The reason they pay yearly bonuses instead of having salary increases is to make people stick longer.

i think it’s not about working hard but whether it’s worth it all in the end.
starting a business to get rich is worth it 100%, but that’s too broad. that’s why people ask how to get rich on this board. they want specificity. problem is that when they receive a recommendation on what business to start - they can’t gauge whether this enterprise will actually get them rich or if it will be a waste of time, no matter how much hard work they will put in.
so i think bottom line is that no one minds working hard as long as what they are working on has a high chance that it will pay off in the end.
running a lemonade stand is hard work but it won’t get you rich ever. people want to avoid “that” kind of hard work.

Not an argument my man, in fact you are debating like a woman reverting to name calling. What’s a kid end up costing? Around 250k just until 18? Well in today’s world kids don’t typically leave the house until 24-25 so let’s round it to a low ball 300k. Now how in the fuck is OP gonna ever get ahead when each child is going to cost 300k? If kids give you 300k worth of enjoyment than by all means have them if you are white. I’m just saying unless you are a successful person financially they are a lifetime sentence of wage cuckoldry unless you get lucky.
