This is somewhat misleading. Addresses are only 160 bits long.

You don't have to guess someone's private key, you just have to guess one of the 2^96 private keys whose pubkey hashes to the same address.

yeah this is always the problem with hashing.

altho there is a trick, bitcoin uses sha256 first on the pub key this results in a 256 bit hash, and shortens it with ripemd160. which means there is not much chance for two public keys that differ to result in the same sha256 hash. but when you shorten that to 160 bits you create collisions that didn't exist before. it's very hard to do it in a targeted way much easier to do it by accident.
