Sup /biz/. I know about inflation and that "printing more money" will just cause everything to be more expensive. But what if the government did this and didn't tell anyone? Or used the money for public spending. Like for example they need to make a road. They just print the money, pay the construction company and be done with it. This way we can have no taxes. All money required by the government for public servicing is allowed to be printed. This includes schools etc. Why would this cause inflation?

This is actually a theory even some economists / hedge managers have circled lately. As currently money pays interest, if you just print government salaries you will have a steady inflation without ever increasing debt. Government to gdp should be around 20% to not 40-50%

Fine I'll humor you anon,
the knowledge of this money existing is reflected in the total amount of money in circulation. If the government pays a construction company billions, then that's billions added to the entire economy, and as people have more money on average, people will request more money, and so prices increase.

It's not that hard.
