No. Even the biased BCH developer tests show their nodes die with like 100MB blocksize. For global currency you need 1-2 order of magnitudes higher blocksize, so it does absolutely not work. And that's just for the currency aspect. Like with IP addresses you better scale 3-5 order of magnitudes higher to cover future use cases. LN is currently the only way to a working global currency unless you want to wait literally 50 years for the hardware and internet infrastructure to catch up.
