What's the correct way to quit a job? Do you really have to write a letter 2 weeks before you last day? Can I just stop showing up?

If you ever want to work for that company or location again, 2 weeks, so they have time to train someone new to take over the hole you will leave. If you hate your job and would rather kill yourself, you can just call your manager and tell him that you're never coming in again, but if you are I'd recommend at least trying to get any remaining shifts covered, just to make it less shitty on their end.

Tldr: if there's a chance you'll need to work for that company again and want to leave on good terms, 2 weeks.

While this might be a call only thing, they only ask if you are re-hirable, and if they say no that might make things rougher than they need to be. But, if you all ready have something else lined up and want to GTFO, just tell your boss when your last day is.
