11754770 No.11754770 [Reply] [Original]

Something is brewing in the markets and many people are beginning to realize many of the projects and hype-cycle projects promising the moon were no less than dog piss.

Many of us have been led by our emotions believing that we could outsmart the market and truly deluding ourselves into thinking we could achieve a 20x, 200x, or 2000x. This is nothing more than greed and emotional contagion.

Now we're at the precipice: Crypto-markets are getting their asses handed to them and I am sitting here wondering HOW THE FUCK IS CHAINLINK THE ONLY THING ON A BULL-RUN?

JUST HOW? I need fucking answers.

This isn't just a saavy blockchain startup with a clever usecase that can make a lot of money.

It enables transformation in contractual agreements that has hitherto been impossible. It helps redefine the way we make deals with each other. It's a philosophical revolution, and we need it.

It was only months ago when link is literally worse than a shitcoin and dumped when even something like dentacoin is in the green. The exact opposite is happening now and I've never been comfier

Hopefully this will be one of the last few purges that drains the swamp and reveal the diamonds within. At that point the remaining projects will experience exponentially increasing attention as more and more people get desperate on finding a place to park their money after selling their shitcoins at a loss

So with all the burgers I’ve been eating lately (gladly of course) I decided today to try an old favorite, the McDonalds Big Mac. I’ll admit, this used to be my favorite meal on earth, but since it’s been years since I’ve eaten anything at McDonalds that wasn’t on their Value Menu, I was really looking forward to having a Big Mac.

As always, the service was fast, the burger was delivered and the fries were crispy for the first 10 minutes. Overall the Big Mac is still one of my favorite “Fast Food Burgers” because of the secret sauce and because it’s so different. We all know that the you don’t eat a Big Mac for the meat and after eating a lot of really good, meaty burgers over the last few months, it was the sauce that helped me enjoy this meal.

My Big Mac rating is simple:the secret sauce is tangy, sweet and makes for a nice burger. It’s one of my favorite fast food burgers but only because of the unique and secret sauce.

Because Chainlink is the key to making crypto work with external data.

Literally 99% of all actual interest shown in Crypto by legacy finance and industry ABSOLUTELY 100% REQUIRES external data connectivity.

Chainlink will be the catalyst of the third big crypto wave.
1) decentralized, peer-to-peer currency (Bitcoin)
2) decentralized, peer-to-peer applications (ETH)
3) decentralized, peer-to-peer external connectivity plus mainstream smart contracts (Chainlink)

>> No.11755036

Thing is you have to understand a lot of things for this "crypto market" to make sense. You need to be redpilled about business, redpilled about white collar scam etc. You have to understand that if there is a way to make money then it will be exploited as much as possible with smiles on the scammers face. The 2008 crisis was banks making money in a shady way. The China Hustle was banks making money(used chinks as scapegoats, but chinks were protected by China).

So my point is that there is no regulation/police in the crypto market which meant you could advertise your ponzi scams freely while masking them as "legit projects". The target market were zoomers and millenials who all were naive and bluepilled.

Everything is a question of timing. If next week link somehow hit 20,000 sats for example, everyone would assume it was the peak and sell until they could sell no more. Then it might be back down to 4000. What does that tell you about the project itself? Absolutely nothing. The number of people holding altcoins looking to take easy profits outweighs the 'righteous investors' by a million to one.

So back to timing. There are whales who own most of the supply of link, and have for a very long time. They put their megabux from historical btc 100x gains into it along with dozens of other altcoins. 2018 has been a boring year and the bch hash war has taken has power out of btc, so the whales need to flip some shit in order to stay in the black. They picked chainlink this week for no particular reason.

It's manipulation. Nothin' personal, kid.

Chainlink is a failed project. The only thing the Chainlink team did correctly was identify the oracle problem, but their solution is unorthodox and unreliable. If one node goes down, they all go down. Not to mention the flaws that have recently been discovered with GoLang. Chainlink is an insecure, invalidated, and expensive solution to an easy-to-fix problem. >In theory is there a way to connect the blockchain to external data without the use of an oracle? Or is this like asking if it's possible to drive a car with no engine?

Well, by definition the oracle is the thing that connects the blockchain to exterrnal data, so it's more like asking if it's possible to drive a car without a car.

The problem (or a problem) that chainlink is aiming to solve is how to TRUST the oracle providing the data to a blockchain. This is not a purely technology problem but also an incentives problem. Chainlink is aiming to create INCENTIVES for oracles to be trustworthy by, among other things, PENALIZING data providers that provide less than perfect data with less than perfect uptime.

I dont know shit about chainlink OP. I swing traded it profitably since the summer. Crypto is a mess and the memes are all I have left to help keep my spirits up. >This makes it seem chainlink is an obvious moon mission with a real usecase...how come it was relatively stagnant in 2017 while other scamcoins did 100x etc?

Agree with you on the first part. Question re: why it was relatively stagnant through 2017 is one I have been asking myself for the past 12 months. Here are my answers:
1) This is mostly an enterprise play, i.e. some big bank wants a simpler way to calculate the payout on a derivative based on price of tungsten. Most crypto projects are B2C -- i.e. how to buy my little pony dolls on the blockchain
2) Related -- team has been focused on enterprise clients, and not so much on any kind of marketing, because they don't really care that much about consumer adoption. Yes, some of recent partnerships announced have been other crypto projects but -- and this is just my guess from breadcrumbs I've seen here, NOT based on any insider info -- I expect in the coming months we are going to see MONSTER anouncements from major institutions using it.
3) Biz has been ACTIVELY fudding chainlink when it gets mentioned in any other forum, especially but not only reddit. In fact, biz has been fudding the shit out of link ON BIZ.
4) but if you've been paying attention on biz for last 12 months (as I have -- I'm somewhat ashamed to admit -- obsessively) then you keep running across gold nuggets that you can indpendently verify, e.g work around ISO 20022 standard and smart contracts.
5) I've spent last ~ 10 months in this totally surreal mental state where I THINK my 20K + stack is going to lead to financial freedom but I can't tell if I'm in that timeline (I calculate 80%) or the timeline where the thing fizzles out and I feel like a fucking idiot.

I see where you are going but that's not exactly how I would put it. I think what you are missing there is the importance of aggregation. I'm going to try to continue your mail analogy. let's say that you have a bunch of weather stations around the state and each mails in its weather report every day. Now, sometimes people screw up, or they are lazy, or they could even be malicious. What do you do? Well you compare each of the reports against the others. If one guy is reporting that the weather was 4000 degrees on Tuesday, you know that guy is a retard, and you start to weight his reports less seriously. If you are SUPER concerned about the weather in a particular region maybe you hire 100 different weather stations right near each other. And you tell each of them, look, if your report is different from the average of the other 99, then I'm going to fine you, then each has an incentive to be dilligent and do a good job and get their reports in on time.

Yes that is the oracle problem. Smart contracts are automatic and therefore if some oracle was hacked or had bad intentions they could cause millions of dollars of damage with NO way to reverse it because of blockchain's deterministic nature. You are right in your assumption that there is no way to determine whether the data delivered by the oracle is true because that'd require star trek technology, but LINK makes it possible to trust that the data delivered by the oracle hasn't been tampered with and is exactly as the source says.

That's what I keep telling myself, but who the fuck knows. One other thing I've learned from biz is the amount of market manipulation, so who the fuck knows. I'm NOT a swing trader because I know I'm going to get fucking rekt. I'm a freelancer, so I try to spend my time doing billable work and then dollar cost averaging. A long time back someone said he's riding link to either 1000 or 0, and I'm pretty much with that right now. Just watching the ride, and trying (without much success) to focus on other things while this plays out since it's pretty much completely outside my control.

He was feeling bad because he had 4K link and kept hearing about anons with 100K. I told him, look man, good for you busting your ass. I think you are going to look back on this as one of the best things you ever did. You did what you could. That's all any of us can do, and you can look yourself in the mirror and say, well, at least I fucking tried. That's how I'm feeling about myself right now. Who the fuck knows what's going to happen, but it seems like, for all the fudding and bullshitting, lots of smart anons on here think it's the smart play to put as much as possible into this. So that's what I'm doing. Honestly it feels like it's out of my hands right now.

I kept getting stuck on the problem of why smart contract seemed revolutionary but I couldn’t find any interesting use cases besides tokens. This is when I found out about the oracle problem. After this I realized that having a centralized oracle of 1 node triggering a smart contract that is secure from 1000 nodes literally doesn’t make sense. So then I was stuck again scratching my head and then finally the lightbulb went off and I realized chainlink has been sitting in front of me the entire time. This was back when people said Sergey went on vacation and was sitting under a hut with suitcases. This is back when they had the old website and I found numerous spelling mistakes(yes spelling mistakes have plagued link) and all this I literally thought it was a joke. Long story long I realized this isn’t a meme and the oracle problem has never been closer to being “solved” than it is right now.

We weren't talking about metrics for investing.
We were talking about why people give Chainlink more credit for its rebound than Stellar.

If you want metrics for investing, look at all the news around Chainlink from the past months.

This shit hits me hard. Was unironically going to put half my life savings into ETH in 2016 but didn't due to family health issues and losing my job for reasons out of my control (got it back). I couldn't justify it and wasn't in the right state of mind.

Link is my second chance and already put half my life savings into it. Lets go boys.

this, I don't think newfags understand that chainlink was #48 and literally among the most hyped tokens and ICOs of the year before SIBOS, and it only fell off everyone's radar (except biz) after SIBOs didn't have any major announcements and the team basically disappeared. It was hardly stagnant October 2017, and really pumped as hard as the average shitcoin in January 2018, but obviously wasn't a major moon mission like some coins did.

>> No.11768469

>>11768425
> one of the most hyped tokens and icos of the year before sibos
Yeah... no. No. It really wasn't. Biz was going insane over it back then and they were one of the few groups to actually buy in because of the way the ICO worked. Even during early exchange listing days it saw some initial interest buys but quickly died off as the team was so antihype. Don't pretend you were there - you clearly weren't.

>> No.11768698

>>11768469
nope, completely incorrect. literally go look at all the threads on ethtrader and how upset people outside of biz and on reddit got after it was discovered the team had sold 90% of the tokens in the presale, far more than they promised, so the main ico sold out instantly. This also doesn't change the fact that it was #48 at it's height and there were literally dozens of articles sergey had published via a PR company that raised chainlinks profile to a level it hasn't seen since.

This was quite literally me this time last year. Was really bullish on smart contracts but thought maybe this technology was coming to an end because smart contracts had no real use case besides shitting out more tokens. Was ready to give up on this market when I finally decided to see what all these fags talking about this project "chainlink" on /biz/. Read the whitepaper and it was like an instant lightbulb going off.
So thank you faggots. Without you I would have totally abandoned this market.
