Amazon is first and foremost a data analysis company. They have other companies ship them their products, enticing them with lower rates and super cheap dropship rates from their warehouses. Then they aggregate that data down to the penny of what it costs to move that product. Then they side step the retail businesses that use their platform and go directly to the manufacturer, buy up a ton of products, then undercut the original retailer. It has happened over and over and over again in every retail category. Thought you were sitting pretty selling 1000 items per day on the Prime platform? Give it a year till Amazon is selling it cheaper and your sales go to 0. The kicker - it was you that supplied them with the information to price you out of the market.

I absolutely admire it, 100%. It's sinister because they have Amazon Prime sales people contact their own 3rd party sellers promising them better sales. And they do, for a time. Then Amazon cuts their throat. The best part is they don't even make that much more for doing it because the Amazon Prime program is basically a no questions ask return policy. Every month or so they end up with a returns of their own product in various states of condition which they have to pay to have shipped back to them. No authorization required, Amazon will just ship it back and take the money for shipping. So that 6% or whatever that they saved by going Prime just got ate up because there's no way they can sell the returns as new, they have to have another avenue to sell it....like....oh I don't know.....(Amazon Warehouse Deals... :)
