>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

I'm in my first week of investing. Probably started about 7 days ago. So far I'm losing my ass but I don't really care because I only put $475 into the market and this is a valuable learning experience while I read "Essays of Warren Buffet" and "The intelligent investor". My idea of the tech boom is that it’ll keep going till the boomers finally leave the workforce. They’re the ones still impressed by anyone who can open Word. It’s to the point that middle schoolers can code. Once they flood the market coupled with newer tech savvy bosses the bottom will fall out. That’s just my opinion though.

I have a friend who majored in aerospace engineering and landed a job there. He couldn't give me details (non-disclosure agreements and all that), but he's a sharp guy and he has faith in the company.

There's a big push to accelerate R&D, which we both think is a good sign, and the CEO's new strategy (attack debt, but don't drop talent) makes a lot of sense.

I'm not clever enough to spot anything special in the balance sheets. They're in too much debt. Take it with a grain of salt, but I think they can pay it off.

AAPL has a consistent dividend payout and operating history. i think if they rely entirely on phone (and other hardware) sales their ceiling is around the ~220 range -- but given their pile of cash for future investments and buybacks as well as billions of dollars already being invested into their service and media divisions, i doubt they will hit a ceiling due to their own operations any time soon.

buybacks are inevitable for such an undervalued pick like AAPL. in fact, Warren Buffett upped his stake in Aug. he, the anon, and I can see what you obviously can't. is it because the stock is too expensive? stick to your penny equities gambler. you want to be rich tomorrow, i want to be rich in 5 years.

with that said, AAPL is a good buy right now. i personally would see if it would go down further to 180 or below. but if you are a real short term penny pincher you would probably want to wait until it's at 160 or lower

Its not a bad idea but don't do it all at once while the market is ATH. See dollar cost averaging.

Buffett is very Jewish when it comes to losing money. Whenever he does a special deal like he did for BAC, Goldman Sachs, etc.., he structures the deal with as many safeguards as possible almost to a laughable degree. That's why he spend hours and hours a day reading. He is looking for scenarios that might lead him to lose money.

People have said he can figure out the intrinsic value of a company in less than 5 minutes. His calculation is very simple and has very very limited assumptions. That being said, the hundreds of hours of work he puts into analyzing a company is just confirming his limited assumptions of the companys ability to generate cash and making sure the book assets are actually worth what the accountants say they are. After doing all of this, he decides what percentage the company needs to fall below intrinsic value to be worth purchasing (this is based on the safeguards in place, for example: economic moat, stability of earnings, stability of book assets, etc..).
