My account total assets (passive and liquid) just passed 32 million EUR. I don't feel different, other than I can buy some of the more material pieces of art I've wished to purchase for a while (pic related, personal sculptor making an Arno Breker replica cast, set to be cast in bronze).

If you think I'm a LARPer, please Google Image search the image.
I've been here for longer than I can remember. And I wanna thank you all. I can't tell you how I made my fortune other than getting in the right groups and being (what others have described me as) a very talented software engineer with an interest in maths and statistics.

Thank you /biz/. Ask any questions that isn't personally identifying.

A tip I learned when just starting up is: If you can get the venture capitalist along with your pitch in 90 seconds or less, you've most likely succeeded in securing funding. Then you agree on an valuation, and they get however many shares you're willing to part with.

In reality it's a bit more complex, because of discreptencies between how much they fund versus how much a product is gonna cost to develop. This is why you'll typically see more funding rounds after the initial seed round.

Good question. I've ran into plenty of "entrepreneurs" in my day-to-day life who face this exact issue. An example would be: "But what if we could extend Uber to also include... bookstores?"

Here's the calculation that goes through the mind of whatever corporation you're trying to convince that you're the one to do execute this idea for them, based on their infrastructure/brand recognition:

Would it be more beneficial to us, to hire a few extra developers and own 100% of the shares of this new technology, or does this person have something unique that is worth giving up shares for?

The thing about companies is they are whores for their intellectual property and will go through hell and back to get the full rights to whatever it is you're developing. Therefore it's gonna be a hard sell.

You're welcome to share your idea in more detail and I can tell you if (in my opinion) it's feasable.

Hi anon, interesting read. You certainly sound like the more successful people i have met.

>What is your thought process when you have to make a "sale"? I put in in quotation marks because i'm not trying to physically sell something but rather convince someone that something is worthwhile for me and them, even though they will receive no financial incentives (financial incentives would not work either)

Sorry. I must've missed it. I'm procrastinating at the office, currently. You're definitely not fucked though.

I assume you have a job. Generally I put 20% of all earnings (salary in your case) on an index fund of the Chinese industrial average.

Since you're on 4chan, and have access to the Internet. I'd recommend specializing in some sort of binary-outcome stock to quickly gain some capital. I know this sounds like gambling, and it is, but it sounds like what you're looking for is a quick way to make a buck. And without literally sitting down at a slot machine, looking into biotech is the best advice I can give you. I have a natural interest in organic chemistry and neurodegenerative diseases, also my country of origin has 2 or 3 of the largest biomedicine R&D labs in the world.

I can recommend Martin Shkreli's analysis of the intepirdine phase II clinical trial.

>>11677620
Nice.
And yes, my general rule is 20% of my net worth goes into savings/index fund.

I cannot give you any advice on crypto, as I've never delved too much into it. I understand the technology, but I'm not sure it's predictable, no matter how many scribbles you draw on a graph.

>>11677630
Good to hear you're ambitious and have jumped head in.

>Convincing a sale

I can't speak to your situation. But the product we sell has a clear advantage over our competitors and the demand is huge. The reason why we're able to succeed without pajeet competitors is because the barrier to entry is so high, and Westeners have a bias towards darker-skinned people, whether you like that or not. That's how the world works.

>Did you have a goal for size and scope for the company? Or did you just keep on growing more than expected?

Definitely got out of hand at one point when we went international. We started out as a test operation domestically. But then we slowly expanded southwards, and now international sales accounts for 80% of our business.

>Did you always feel like it would go like this for you? Success, money etc.

I've always wanted this to happen. But I was scared I wouldn't even be able to land a normal job as a kid, because I was interested in different things.

A concrete example of a reality check: I was sitting in class (6th grade), the kids were playing soccer outside, while I was sitting working on something to scan and solve most of the simple algebraic problems in our textbooks (I had a little hand scanner with me). Luckily I went to class with ONE asian who had similar interests, and was never bullied. So overall 10/10 childhood.

>Advice as you begin coming into money? How has your mood/happiness/outlook changed over time?

Stolen directly from a podcast I listen to, and I have found it to be true:
Material posessions, such as an iPad, can remove annoyances and make tasks easier in your day-to-day life. But the the feeling of happiness does not occur, if only for a little while after unpacking it and being amazed at the technology.

>How do you find good people to take your company to the next level?

I ended up taking a gap year to focus on my software skills. Obviously, it ended up paying off. So I dropped out of college, since I practically knew everything they taught. Thinking about returning one day, if I retire early.

>also, how do you cultivate self discipline?

I don't. This is my archiles heel aswell. Luckily, the stuff I've been doing for the past 2 years has been continously interesting. A lot of books and research papers read. Thank you based Alexandra Elbakyan.

>>11678481
I'm not an all-knowing god of career paths. I'm sure I was lucky in a lot of what I did (some of it was obviously hard work and dedication too).

But from my personal experience, acquiring as many skills as possible (especially in STEM) is a bonus. If you're intelligent you know how to apply theory from one field, to solve an otherwise difficult problem in another. I've had this happen to me multiple times while writing code.

Unless you have STEM knowledge, day/swing trading is not the "thinking mans gambling", it's literal gambling, with even shittier odds. My advice would be to either apply yourself, and take your time, or put everything you got and put it on red and may god be with you.

The answer is actually more complex than what I stated there.

I am not a stock analyst by any means, and I don't trust any capital fond claiming they are (also some of the management fees + curtage is ridiculous).

The funds are distributed amongst several countries in economically up-and-coming, and China is on the top of my list there.

A lot of it goes into savings, with trivial interest (unfortunately, that's how banks work), and I have made the decision to put roughly 3-4% in my (future) kids pension funds.

I was a huge fan of value investing till I realized the irrationality of the market.
see
soros' paper on reflexivity
alchemy of finance (has some overlap with the above given it's the same author)
it doesn't outright shill it, but you do see that prices aren't reflective of fundamental value and that they can continue to be so for longer than most think

TA is the way to go imho after I realized it factors some of the irrationality into account. (and corrections that happen when bubbles form)

but if you insist
check out the
intelligent investor
afaik just the p/e ratios and book value should be enough in some senses
reading on modern portfolio theory was a bit helpful but I think kelly's criterion should be of better use depending on your approach to trading/investing.

but if you're referring to how to read balance sheets and such
just google financial statements, 4 main ones iirc are balance sheets, income statements, statement of owner's equity and cash flow statements

if you have the time, skim through the cfa books (you can probably torrent it or something) I plan on taking it next year

Hi Anon you seem really well spoken and your quote about the ego really hit something.

I need an advice seeing you might have been in similar situations. I am quite introverted and I often let people talk over me. Unless I feel I have something really important to say I don't really care about speaking up. This of course leads to me being silent for most of the time. I thrive when talking about interesting subjects one on one, but unfortunately my job, although well paying, isn't in a field that particularly interest me.

It is more of a sales role that I picked up feeling I needed to develop myself socially, and it really boosted me in that aspect, but the weight is getting heavier by the day.

My education was software engineering but I feel like I'm getting left behind, and I don't have the energy to practice during in my personal time. Entrepreneurship is my final destination, and blockchain at one point revived something I thought was dead in me.

Do you have any advice? Have you been through something like this?

An artistic life is one of financial insecurity however it provides the most enjoyable life to work ratio. understand this because not just you but anyone will ALWAYS have been able to make much more income in other disciplines. if you are interested in working in graphic design then perhaps you should work something that has part time elements to it. I.E. literally 20 hour weeks or contracts so you can invest in graphic design freelance work between contracts or while looking for a contract that would sustain you to focus on the design work. on the flip side if you are strictly about making money in graphic design you can commission the worst type of furry fetish brony baby diaper shit ever and they will pay you more than you can imagine for it. the thing is with any career catering to filth your soul will erode over time so think about it carefully.

I'm a lot more secure about my sexuality than you are about your taste in art. Your choices are gauche as fuck, a shallow and reductionist attempt to address what you think is the "degeneracy" of abstraction, which you address by trying to recreate renaissance sculpture but instead you're getting something closer to a set of shop window mannequins.

Every time you look at those sculptures, you will remember this comment and come to hate your shitty art collection that represents nothing more than an effete rebellion against real art, how you perceive it as a threat to your paper thin veneer of an ego, and how your attempt to amplify your masculinity and desire for order, domination, power and all of those other puerile alt-right mgtow type ideas is basically the most adolescent, clumsy and pathetic set of values anybody can have.

Who wants to bet you actually spend hours of your life trying so hard to think about how to become more of a man to other people, all the while not understanding that all of this undermines your manliness and just makes you a permanent adolescent, all reaction and no true values. Imagine that - you feel so cornered and exposed by art that is non-representational that you have to decorate your living space with what amounts to groan worthy kitsch, and grandiose, fedora level political posturing in order to defend yourself from the judgement of others.

Also your total obliviousness to how camp the statues are, yes both male and female, is basically hilarious. Go and email your pictures to any art lecturers from any university and ask them whether they consider them to be examples of camp, queer culture type art. You'll hate the answer. Also look at 60s pop art, and how it centres around this type of body worship sculpture. There's a reason why it was all made by homosexuals.

>An artistic life is one of financial insecurity

Not necessarily, there are people that make a killing on illustration / video editing / typography, etc. However, I think it is more difficult to succeed than in other types of careers, like financial careers. I'm NOT saying that finances is easy, to be clear. Just that the bar to "make a living" is more easily attainable in other fields.

I don't mind doing the "dirty work", as you have said with the example of the brony scat thing.

What I was thinking, was focusing 2019 on improving my skills, becoming the best designer I can be, and also network and meet people that could use my services. For example, people from here, or anwhere, really. Start doing small jobs I can get here and there (which is what I am already doing), and charge low fees for my work, so I can get repeat customers, and until I get more work. Then, try to work my way up to bigger projects, and a more decent income

Still a possibility that everything is true.

And the idea that people reject his "story" because they can't handle the fact someone of their age (or much younger) is a lot more successful (lot could be said about this notion) also happens to be a confirmation bias.

I personally don't care, either a liar or a wealthy individual with extremely doubtful taste in art. I would understand if he was american, but seeing this proudly exposed by an EU citizen, quite a shame. He might be german.

Excerpts from 4Chan

> I watched a startup in San Fran mission district or whatever its called. They raised $14 million or so, setup shop, paid a shit ton to staff, closed a year later. A lot of the money was spent traveling and speaking at conferences. Seen a competitor of theirs do the same thing but right before they closed down they had an ICO and were able to pay back original investors and make out like a bandit running their same operation but just adding an ever decreasingly valued crypto currency to their project.

I work as an accountant and get prospective clients coming in the door with absolute total utter shit tier ideas that you would never think would be a viable business, but they are sitting with thousands upon thousands from VC, accelerator and seed rounds.

Where the fuck does all this money come from?

Then the founders just pay themselves stupidly high salaries and inevitably I am applying for the company to go through insolvency strike off after a year or two.

Give me a convincing career pathway that you have charted from bottom-up, otherwise you are just part of SV / Elite money circle-jerk. And BTW, 3M USD is enough to be FIREd and work on betterment of unprivileged folks. Fuck that "Game Theory" justification for being selfish. How many hands-on charity work you participated, faggot ?

$32M is not enough to play that game either. There was $5.2B spent on the fucking midterms. The best approach I can think of is getting money out of the hands of the state with crypto and letting reality kill off degeneracy.

In Denmark, it's everything is put into "saereje" (prenuptial agreement) by default. You go through extra work to have shared custody of your business/property. So there never really was a discussion.
