So in reality this board is nothing but a bunch of lazy incompetents who only want to make money without doing anything - or as they call it, "investing". What a waste. I had hoped when /biz/ first opened that it'd be full of hopefuls trading business ideas and exploring different ways to make money for themselves. You guys truly are pathetic. Not only that, every time I come here with actual advice and experience on how I manage to make a minimum wage on the side, I get shit flung at me.

Also it's so fucking obvious companies shill here and you guys fall for it like no other board. Holy shit get it together.

A lot of us are invested in crypto precisely so we can start our own companies with the profits afterwards. The lamboland meme is just a meme.

Starting a company takes a lot of money, and getting investors, doing seed rounds, getting venture capitalists, angel investors and such interested ultimately means you wont own your company and you will be a bitch to shareholders and wont be able to do with it what you want. If you own a company 100% you are basically like a little dictator and can do what you want, regardless of the risk and such.

This isn't true anymore. Get an idea that's reasonable, purchase the LLC. and sell online. Granted this isn't something done with no money, just very little. You can do it with $1000 or cheaper.

I'm not a salesman and have no passion for that type of business. I want to follow my passion and make money from my ideas. Not just trying to undercut other sellers.

I think there are a lot of ignored markets in gaming right now that you could make a good profit on as long as you don't go full retard and produce it with a AAA budget. AA gaming has potential to make a big comeback. But with making video games you need a good 1-2 years of funds ready to pay your wagecucks because you wont have any income until your first release is out.

It's my life's dream to open my own independent gaming studio and work on small to mid budget games with a focus on quality and artistic direction over mass appeal and just hope good word of mouth and lots of positive reviews eventually bring us enough sales over the years to make a steady profit and continue making them.

I'm hoping Chainlink is more than memes and that will give me the funds to start up the company.

A lot of the really cheap budgets are made in Poland or other eastern euro shitholes which is why the budgets are so low. The other tiny budget ones are where the main dev was an all rounder and could program, to art and most stuff by himself so it was a solo project. I'm gonna need to hire artists and programmers though. I'm not an all rounder.

>>11672686

AAA games absolutely cost way to much, see pic related with western AAA's compared to eastern euro AA quality games.

Probably almost nothing back then, and today almost nothing. But the market for 8bit and 16bit games is severly overcrowded and you are competing with people doing some mindblowingly amazing work in that area too. Like devs putting full physics engine into an 8bit game and each pixel has it's own physics characteristics.

Here watch this trailer for The Last Night. Upcoming pixel art game just like NES and SNES but using modern hardware drawing it at a much higher resolution.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4IPBiB7SF4

It looks insanely well.

Or check out Noita with it's pixel based physics engine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFKpfpwgTDs

2D pixel art games like NES and SNES are a very competitive scene, and now cost mid to big budgets in themselves to hire all the artists (doing pixels is a lost art so it's a bit of a specialty now, 3D polygonal art is actually cheaper now).

Personally I am going to be making 3D games but not aim for PS4 tier graphics which are expensive. Retro PS1 graphics are getting more popular in indie games at the moment now too.

It's not as 'we' call it. That's the universal definition of modern investing. Some guy at a desk losing money around on a computer. Or are you some moron who still thinks there is some kind of calorie value expended in labour tied to USD?

You can spend the time and money to make your own engine if you need it, or you can license an engine out to save time. It might be cheaper or cost more depends.

Like for example some developers recently bought a license for the old Build Engine that powered Duke Nukem 3D back in 1996. They plan to release a new game on the engine called Ion Maiden in a few months which looks amazingly fun. It absolutely looks like a late 90's game though but 90's nostaliga is getting strong right now in gaming.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CughxRfW5-Q

Personally I'd like to get a build engine license myself, or even the Quake 3 Arena engine (Id Tech 3) and make some retro late 90's early 00's games in a small budget.

Loved all your comments.

Old game dev here who tinkered enough with Q3 engine back in 90s (wish someone really create a retro-city with all 90s gaming stuff) to create indie games. Also created a web-based 2D game engine complete with 2D physics.

However a peace of advice. Game development is demanding as you may know and probability of success is limited. Moreover, it has a tendency to 'freeze' your awareness as your life slips away.

Nowadays moved myself out of gaming/game-dev (an addiction really) into following

- Economics / Crypto
- Modern Physics
- Spirituality
- Gardening and offline craftsmanship
etc.

Couldn't be happier. Best of luck.
