Jihan/bitmain (ABC nodes)

Pretty much. It's never been more uncertain.

Either bitcoin shows that it is truly resilient to development teams and companies trying to take over it and change it, through the power of miners and nakamoto consensus... or it will show everyone that the project has failed, decentralization is not really possible.

This is the first real test of crypto, first real life test of nakamoto consensus. Either the experiment fails and dies forever, or it will show resilient and there will be a rebirth of bitcoin. Either way it will be war, a lot of value will be destroyed and shifted around.

Personally I would advise against that. This is not a fork with replay protection, its a real hashwar. Exchanges may stop trading and withdrawals during the war, price may collapse. Lots of uncertainty.

reminder that bitcoins' innovation was using economic incentives to create an immutable ledger.
the existence of an immutable ledger is unprecedented in human history and allows the equally unprecedented non debaseable currency. The adoption of non debaseable currency can invert the power arrangement of the world from those that deceive to those that create. There has never been as optimistic an opportunity to create societies that serve the individual instead of societies that are systems of wealth extraction at the expense of the individual.

Without on chain adoption bitcoin cannot be considered secure as mining will eventually need to be incentivized by fees as the block reward declines.
The btc devs literally limited adoption to 1mb of transactions per 10min (about 7tps) and then created transaction capacity off chain with lightning and liquid.
This limit is entirely arbitrary contrary to what the media tells you.
This leaves btc as a ponzi scheme as without on chain adoption there is no security, again off chain adoption does not incentivize security.

Bitcoin cash is a split in response to the above and is the economic system detailed in the bitcoin whitepaper

this is theoretical, the realistic limit is closer to 5 transactions per second on BTC

BCH:
+ Approximately 100 transactions / sec
+ Non-reversible transactions allow for instant acceptance by merchants (0 conf)
+ Difficulty is adjusted every block
+ Scales on-chain
+ Always includes all tx input scripts in the blockchain
+ Most of the people that made Bitcoin what it is today now support Bitcoin Cash
+ Big exchanges added support for BCH almost immediately
+ Have larger scripting capabilitiess
+ Works as described in the original Bitcoin whitepaper

BTC:
+ Approximately 5 transactions / sec
+ Transactions can be replaced to return your payment back to yourself
+ Difficulty is adjusted every 2016 blocks, adding risk of complete freeze if miners leave
+ Tries to scale off-chain but nobody knows how routing will work (Lightning Network), will eventually need a backbone of hubs
+ Removes tx input scripts from the blockchain on non-SegWit nodes, relocates them on SegWit nodes
+ Controlled by Blockstream, denies code that don't align with the company vision
+ Got to keep the original ticker symbol
+ Several opcodes are still disabled in scripting
+ Not meant to be used as cash, claims to be a store of value

The centralization is usually exaggerated, though it is correct to say that to store the full chain (assuming mass adoption/use) it would almost be impossible for the average individual. However, for one to run a validating node, they need only keep the UTXO set which is comparably tiny.

It is based on the false premise that there is some objective metric called "centralization" that must be maximized at the expense of all other performance domains (tx throughput, fungibility, etc.)
The reality is there are many different kinds of centralization to consider and these must be balanced against other performance domains. Where this balance exists is open to debate, but it is clearly not where BTC is right now. Ideally the balance should be struck via ruthless competition among miners, not some wizard council of coders who think they can centrally plan bitcoin.

People are completely clueless about how extreme the requirements are for full 32mb or 128mb blocks. It may be possible to dramatically improve the software but in the current state it's in you would be looking at a twin cpu server with 512gb of ram and a fuckton of SSDs as a minimum. If anyone tried to use BCH 32mb blocks now you would find most miners will just refuse to mine anything bigger than 4mb or 8mb. The RAM and SSD requirements are beyond what you get on AWS or azure cloud services.

It's pretty likely the BTC whitepaper is filled with numerous incorrect assumptions. Satoshi was good at cryptography but only an average programmer. Much of the stuff regarding PoW contradicts itself, at first he said 1 cpu = 1 vote but later on he didn't seem to be opposed to specialized hardware which resulted in 1 autistic chinese fraudster with ASICs = 5,000,000 votes one CPU = 0.00000001 votes.

So far BCH hasn't had to deliver on any of it's scaling claims as the blocks are always empty aside from the one time they briefly spammed it. It's easy to make these claims when no one can test them.

The brand name is one of the few things Bitcoin has going for it. If a "flippening" were to happen, that name would get burned. There's no way in hell you can burn down Bitcoin and then move on to Bitcoin Cash as if nothing happened.

If we're in for a flippening, fine, but then you should expect something like Ethereum to take the lead that is actually used for something. Sure, most Ethereum tokens are shitcoins, but still it's an interesting feature and the platform development is far more open and academic than Bitcoin Core or Bitcoin Cash could ever hope to be.

This is just yet another pump and dump from Bitcoin Cash. This is why we also call it Bitch Crash. It will come down again.

I do not think it is better, BCH is clearly better as it can do what it was designed to do. Provide a secure decentalized ledger for transactions with a reasonable transaction cost.
What I said is that being slightly better than BTC is not a good thing, BTC is ancient tech at this point, many other projects do secure decentralized ledger much better.
What you are missing is why BTC is worth what it is, beating BTC in technology or even real world adoption will do nothing as the billions in volume is on trading leveraged derivatives (altcoins) in a ponzi market.

Hard fork = Two separate networks. Like for example BTC and BCH. These nodes don't communicate with each other, BCH added replay protection meaning every transaction you send on BCH won't reach BTC nodes. 2 networks 2 cryptos.

Chain split = One network, separate chains. Like for example SV client and ABC client. They will still communicate with each other and receive all BCH transactions. As long as your UTXO is valid on both chains it will be included in both chains. Each new mined SV block will be rejected by ABC clients and vice versa, so there will be two chains, however if you don't deliberately go out of your way to split your coins by using opcodes that one chain finds invalid, then your tx will be in both chains. 1 network 1 crypto.

>> No.11638761

>>11638727
also, exchanges are supposed to listen to the chain with the most proof of work. that's why even if there are 2 chains in 1 network there will still only be 1 crypto.

some rogue exchanges will incorrectly list 2 versions of BCH. this is because they don't respect the way bitcoin is supposed to work. it's very risky to do so because if one chain dies off, as it usually does, then a lot of people will wonder why all their money disappeared. splitting coins is dangerous because someone will always lose money, even if it isnt the one doing the splitting.
