Realistically how difficult do you think it would be to build a trading bot from scratch?

I have the math & cs background to do it - just wondering if it would be worth my time. Might even put it up on github for free to pad my resume.

Developing the infrastructure and actual bot is actually really easy, especially if you're not doing any HFT or short timeframe time stuff and you don't have to worry about latency or immediate execution speed.

Developing a consistent, winning edge/strategy, however, is why algo trading companies hire IMO medalists and physics phds and not just anyone who can program and do college math.
