https://www.cnbc.com/2018/10/26/he-moved-to-a-jungle-in-india-to-escape-his-student-debt--and-hes-not-alone-.html

> He now lives in a concrete house in the village of Uchakkada for $50 a month. His backyard is filled with coconut trees and chickens. "I saw four elephants just yesterday," he said, adding that he hopes to never set foot in a Walmart again.
> His debt is currently on its way to default. But more than 9,000 miles away from Colorado, Haag said, his student loans don't feel real anymore.
> Haag had some hope restored when he landed full-time work as a medical courier in Denver, delivering urine and blood samples to hospitals. > However, he was disappointed to find that he brought home just $1,700 a month. He had little money left over after he paid his student loan bill. He couldn't afford an apartment in the city, where rents have been rising sharply. He lived with his mother and rarely went out with friends.
> "I couldn't make the math work in America," Haag said.
> Adjusting to a new country, he admitted, has not been entirely easy. "Some toilets here are holes in the ground you squat over," Haag said. Recently, he ate spoiled goat meat at a local restaurant and landed in the emergency room.

> Half of student loan borrowers haven't paid even $1 toward their debt's principal five years into repayment, according to the U.S. Department of Education. Forty percent of student loan borrowers are expected to default by 2023, according to the Brookings Institution.

I spent 6 years getting a masters degree in engineering then got a job doing engineering making an engineering salary.

Total cost came out to just about $120K.

The most sad part is all I do excel shit all day and the most complicated calculations I have to do involve division and multiplication. There is nothing difficult or challenging about the job, you could train just about anyone to do it. You're being generous if you say you use 10% of what you learned in school on the job.

All of my co-workers are women and minorities who obviously didn't pay attention in class because they don't know basic science which is fine because you don't have to be smart to be an engineer, it just shows that the whole system is a charade and should just fucking collapse already.

I’ll admit that’s some reasonable tuition, but you’ve got it pretty fucking easy if you don’t have to pay for anything else besides the absolute bare minimum. You’re also not paying the additional out-of-state fees yet you have the benefit of not having to pay for ludicrous housing/intangibles in California because your parents paid that for you too.

Also, “just illegally download books instead of buying/renting them” is not a good solution. The textbook industry is a sham no doubt, but that’s basically stealing, which could be an ethics violation and could potentially affect a future career if you’re pursuing law enforcement or something like that in the small chance you get caught. I just explained that borrowing the money and using it to not pay for your college/uni is fraud and something you can actually be arrested for. This means when he comes back there could be a warrant for his arrest, that's what stops him or at least gives him pause. If you ditch your loan obligations after the school are paid that's not illegal, it just ruins your credit for a long time and they will garnish your wages.

>>11553774
That statistic is insane, I agree. It's entirely rational to just pay the interest since practically everyone on the planet is servicing their debt by selling their inflated assets ie property, Bitcoin, land, stocks.

They are picking real fucking weirdo's though. A guy that chose to live in a jungle because of a paltry 20k he could probably pay for with a kickstarter or youtube cyberbegging. He can't even go back without risking coming home to a bench warrant for his arrest.

This is actually caused by Americans' attempts to protect the blacks, as usual. The Supreme Court banned most aptitude tests for employers in Griggs v. Duke Power as it was considered racist. Then degrees were used as a proxy for competence, but the government tightened the rules around discharging student loan debt, making it very difficult, if not impossible. Then they started getting worried that not enough minorities were attending college so they offered them federally guaranteed loans. With a captive consumer base and guaranteed money, colleges responded by raising tuition and using the tuition hike to increase administrative pay. Now we apparently have 40% of borrowers not making a payment towards the principal of the loan.

I'm generally not a doomsday scenario type guy, but if there is one thing I hope to happen in my lifetime is the tuition bubble popping and the entire university system collapsing and changing into something more useful.

Complete and utter fucking scam. Most degrees are fucking worthless. My 4 year business degree is useless and I know it's my fault for being retarded and entitled when I was young, and for not doing STEM or of the likes, but i was fucking 18. What the fuck do I know what I want to do?

I know people may think of these as memes because it's all new and not "accepted by society", but I hope sites like Coursera and Udemy where you buy courses and learn online continue to grow and overthrow the education system. Hopefully more employers learn to hire people because they're competent and not because of a degree. A degree does not equal competence.

So logistics in production plants (pork, chicken, beef, etc.) is a great place. You don't have to deal with the gross bullshit of slaughter and it gives you great experience with other areas and at most companies you will directly deal with corporate. Downsides are most of the people you work with will either be Spanish speakers for pork and chicken. Beef has a lot of Somalians and Arabs. Farming (depending on were you are) is always in need of help in spring and fall and they pay great with on site training. Silo companies and product distribution is a little tougher to get into but they pay well. Even in the towns, working in fast food, retail, etc pays $4 - $5 above minimum wage due to employee demand and work ethic and most places are willing to hand out overtime for the previous reasons

In terms of work, it depends on what you do. I was in logistics management and mostly just sat in an office and did order shit and arranged orders for the guys. If the guys needed help I'd be out on the floor helping them. Certain days I was literally moments away from walking out but some days I'd be doing nothing for hours

Seems like everyone dumps on China and their whole social credit scoring system, saying it’s social engineering and a violation of human rights. But we’ve had that for ages in the US with our financial credit score system. If your credit score gets wrecked because of outstanding student loan debt, you’re fucked. It’s also not uncommon for companies to check the credit score of potential job candidates, and if your score is less than stellar you’re fucked. Apartment complexes do the same thing to renters, and that greatly restricts where you can live. Even if you can pay a full year of rent in advance, they’ll still reject you.

Wanna get really fucked? Graduate from college with massive debt and then have a medical emergency without insurance. You can’t take a piss in a hospital without it costing $10K.

Everybody in this thread is missing the biggest point.
Giving people a useless degree with heavy debt is a catalyst for social change. Look around here in the US particularly over the past two years. ain't all this "Jews steal top Uni slots" mostly a non-issue?

You don't need a Top Uni sheep skin to get a high paying job. Its not WHICH college you go to, but what you do AT college. Guy with top grades in EE from State college better than (((History of Women))) from Ivy League.

Most top pay tech jobs don't require even HS diploma, just proven skills that can quickly be proven on demand.

Ditto with other top pay jobs, like sales.

Here's how an average day goes:
>me $15/hr begin operating machinery
>engineer $35/hr comes over and tells me equipment needs to be calibrated in two months
>tell engineer I calibrate tools every week in about 30 mind or less
>"b-but anon, h-how do you know how to do it? "
>point at wall covered in calibration instructions
>"huh, guess we will have a quick day with the calibration technician ($25/hr) over here. Say, how does this machine work anyways? "
>explain machine to man whose been at this company 7 years
>his eyes glaze over and he goes back to his desk to text and sip coffee
>mfw I could work circles around these guys
>mfw art degree does not give me the 'right' to hold a $35/hr position that involves zero brains
This country needs an audit

This. degrees are a meme, what matters is real life experience. Instead of college, we should just have aptitude tests for strengths and weaknesses. From the results, people then would do apprenticeships and gain salary/position increases based on competence.

>Half of all student loans are on their way to default lmaooooooo

I'm confused, I thought student loan debts couldn't be defaulted on. Like there are laws that treat it differently than every other kind of debt on the planet so that you can't claim bankruptcy on it.

Or is defaulting different than claiming bankrupty? I'm a brainlet with an 820 credit score so I wouldn't know the difference. Regardless, I'd thought literally the only ways to deal with student loan debt is pay it off, get forgiveness by govcucking for 10 years, or kill yourself. Am I wrong?

degrees aren't necessarily a meme, but they are really intended for people who want to change the field they're going in to. Like scientists who want to study something novel or engineers who want to challenge existing procedures, etc. Contributing to a body of knowledge in some form or fashion.

99% of college kids aren't there to do that, they're there to fulfill an arbitrary prerequisite that most decent-paying white-collar jobs impose on applicants. You're right they'd all be better off in an apprenticeship system where it's understood explicitly that you're there to learn applicable skills to perform the relevant functions of a certain job so that you can get paid and not starve to death.

>The philosophy major concedes that his student loan balance of around $20,000 isn't as large as the burden shouldered by many other borrowers, but he said his difficultly finding a college-level job in the U.S. has made that debt oppressive nonetheless. "If you're not making a living wage," Haag said, "$20,000 in debt is devastating."

Well shit, sounds like money well spent cause over 80% of the crap you learn in college is next to worthless in the real world.
And I am being overtly generous when accounting the for portion of courses that are absolute requirements and everyone has to take those POS Psych100, SocialJustice100 and so on.
No idea how bad those basic courses have gotten nowadays but judging by the MSM and Twitter, some of them are absolutely worthless and not even worth the opportunity cost in time.

Lol at using your little meme parentheses for anyone who criticizes Trump. I'm gonna have to burst your deluded teenager bubble here because Trump bows to Jews just like every other politician he claims to be different from you dumbass drone. Fact is he's completely incompetent for the job of President and he won because of how God awful the alternative was.

Universities peddled a generation on the idea that a piece of paper can guarantee prosperity.
That without a tangible goal, without a drive to pursue skills and people, and without understanding that your value to society is arbitrated by the end result of your own work you can still live a comfortable life because you did the bare minimum to be handed this piece of paper.
Those people are suffering. I see them on /biz/ every day, and I have absolutely no sympathy. These were the people skipping class, copying homework, cheating on exams so they can either engorge themselves on media, the internet or parties. Living under the delusion that things will work out because we live in a 1st world country. That because you are 'intelligent' and educated, society where place a value on you no matter what.

They got an advance on living retirement during their years of college, now they have to pay it forward.

This. I don't get why the faggots on this board revere him. I'll give him this at least:The most important thing about him was that his election delivered a well-deserved backhand to left wing garbage. I'm also sure he will continue to use trading leverage to squeeze china which was long overdue, and if he keeps working on jobs he could have some net positive impact - but with everything else it just seems like he is going to make it worse or not fix it at all.

We needed someone a lot more well-spoken, even tempered and harder to assail to really start fixing our culture though. We need a scalpel to cut out some of the cancer of sportsball team-tier political tribalism.
