as a buffoon who just now got his e-trade account verified, are weedstocks viable long-term? I've been reading that the market is valued too high compared to the supply that can be achieved for demand (ACBFF is valued at 5.66B mcap alone), but that companies should grow over the next couple years with more states legalizing and producers/distributors taking advantage.

I've got a few thousand still from making it into crypto at the beginning of the bull rush, thinking about putting 50% in bonds/etf, some in weedstocks, some in AMD/tech stocks.I've only started looking into the stock market this past week

It's possible, but granted it's tough. The method I'm trying to refine kinda works, but not too efficiently. If I have enough time to study it I can predict pretty short term moves that will net me a decent amount of cash. 25% to 35 % gains is safe gainz, but you can hold as long as you feel comfortable with holding.
I've held he puts up until they started rebounding, and sold out. Was about 150% gains. Same for spy puts for that big drop.

Yes and yes. It's just a higher risk/higher reward trading strategy. Not something I recommend until you've been trading common shares a while and has a demonstrably reliable strategy.

Perhaps. Canada does have first mover advantage. It's not outside the realm of possibility that one of those companies turns in to a global behemoth. I think the cannabis derivative biopharma sector has most upside. That's mainly because research has been difficult, especially in the US, with government actively interfering and limiting clinical trials the research labs have been allowed to do. That has all changed now with Canada being a safe haven for the research.

Secondary opportunity I'm seeing recently is demand for high quality craft growers who put out primo weed at primo price. People aren't especially satisfied with what the big LPs had to offer this week; too dry, not well cut. McDonalds weed, essentially.

That sentiment seems to be agreed by most, is that mcap too high though? As someone coming from crypto where low valuations with potential room to grow were ranged in the 20-50M pre bullrun, Im not sure how mcap relates with each other in stocks (even knowing that these are potential billion dollar companies). I know crypto's mcap isn't very practical either, with vaporware coins created by 16 year olds ballooning to like 30m in january, but at least I was more familiar as I could compare it to bitcoins mcap/dominance

Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable opening a long hodl on any weed stock right now. Too much volatility. You're better off swing trading the sector until more numbers are available after first post-sales financials come out. Compare the market position and revenue of each big company, choose the best ones from there.

Is there a such thing as true value for stocks?

Its clear that bitcoin is worth 6000 dollars.
Its been that way for nearly an entire year.
That is how much a bitcoin is worth and i dont see it changing ever now that it had balanced out.

But for stocks, are there any examples of flat prices per share? I mean companies/groups where their price has stayed at (or extremely close to) one price for years, not even going up from inflation?

It only killed the last one because it was such an insane collapse of the housing market -- this time, it's just a supply-demand issue rather than the popping of an entire speculative bubble.

Typically, the housing market isn't very correlated with the stock market or the market as a whole.

Why buy Activision? 80% of their revenue comes from only two games, both 15 years old. Battle for Azeroth is killing WoW as the worst received expansion ever. OWL, also known as gook league, is a laughing stock and best known in the press for punishing players for toxic behavior rather than producing memorable matches.

I follow some stocks out of interest and I've taken a ton of business and financing classes, but something that still confuses me is why buy stock if you aren't buying enough to be on the board of administrators/directors/whatever it is?

Let's say 4chan stock (MOOT) is valued at $1000 a share today, so I invest $20000, in six months it is valued at $1400, aren't my dividends still pennies as far as what I receive in return? What is the value of being a shareholder other than to sell shares back to people?

For most people it's just about financial investment and wealth growing. The share ideally reflects the health of the company. If you're a small time investor or trader than owning shares is just a vehicle to increasing wealth. No one will or should give a shit about our owning shares other than betting on it's growth for profit.

Just keep studying, torrent investing videos (there's a crypto series too) and learn as much as you can by reading all the books. Maybe even open a tdameritrade account for think or swim to practice with the paper (not real money) trading option to get used to it.

For the indices, 2008 was actually worse than the millennial tech pop. Deeper drop, anyway. Faster recovery.

Take a look see here at the patterns historically made at the peak that lead to recessions. Your major bearish indicator is a price range hovering at the high for some time (few months) and unable to break it. If you zoom in the weekly and daily charts of these peaks you will see double/triple tops and head & shoulders patterns. None of these things have happened yet. The indices are still due for a significant bounce, the peak of the bounce will determine the likelihood of trend reversal; ie, lower high = bearish, higher high = bullish continuation. You start going short when the bulls can't set a new ATH despite trying their best repeatedly.

Yes, already there. Just put a stop loss under the 5.25 support and you should be fine. I have a large cost averaging order at 4.50 but the odds of that ever filling before it goes bullish have decreased considerably now. Descending channel was broken on October 12th. RIV's lows are 5.25, 5.26, and 5.29; all quick dips and immediate bounce off.
