The price of most coins are linked to the price of BTC. If BTC crashes, like it just did, then you expect the price of most alts to crash as well. I'm not exactly sure why this is the case, maybe people sell because it's what happened in the past, or maybe people sell to wait on USD so they can buy the dip, or perhaps this is caused by bots, since the moves are almost instant. In short, nothing in particular sold and cause a crash on ETH, it just dropped in price because BTC crashed.

Bonus, during actual BTC bull runs, alts (most of them) will crash hard, yet not quickly, which is dangerous if you are not familiar with crypto, because the hope of your alts recovering will keep you from selling, which is what you should do: just sell all your alts and stay on BTC once the next bull run begins...if it does happen again.
