Black Mirror is a sci-fi show on Netflix in which each episode displays an alternate near-future (less than 40 years from now) in which a certain technology took off and became a central part of human life. Some portrayals are pretty grim, while others are quite alright.

Some examples of widely adopted (or sometimes even enforced) technologies displayed in the show are:
>An eye implant which records everything you see throughout the day
>A brain implant which allows you to block people in real life (you can't see or hear them and vice versa)
>A company that sells a "ressurection" service: you upload a deceased person's entire online history and data, and they make a synthetic android with an AI trained to mimic that person based on their data

It's very easy to imagine some of these will be possible, and it's equally easy to feel in awe of how amazing or terrible their impact on life might be.

In this thread: we post a concept tech we believe (or would like to believe) will become mainstream within this century.
>Suggestion: post one you're eager to see and one you're fearful of

I think companion/butler drones will be a thing. Would be pretty awesome
>Have a little flying tin can by my side at all times
>Carries my wallet/key/backpack for me
>Cracks jokes when I'm feeling down
>Reminds me of stuff I'm supposed to do
>Points a blaster gun and screams "BACK OFF NIGGER" at niggers who get too close to me
Pretty neat desu

if self-aware AI ever emerges it would evolve so fast we'd never know wtf happened. it'd be like one day you computer is just a machine, then you come back from taking a piss and it's now omnipotent.

AI as companion/friends will become a huge industry. If anyone has seen the movie "HER" then pretty much like that. We aren't even THAT far from something like that, spend a few hours dicking around with the REPLIKA app and you'll see how fast AI / Neural networks can learn.

as for technology whose potential I'm most excited about...AR. I imagine a future where the internet(information) is no longer something held back behind a screen but overlaps the real world environment. maybe we view it through transparent displays like glasses or car windshields, or maybe we just upgrade our eyeballs.
in this future, you can customize the application (lenses) you want to view the world through. so maybe details from someones tinder profile is displayed alongside them as they walk past you (if that's your thing). or maybe you're reading latin names and known medical uses of all the plants you see on your morning walk. the sky show the weekly forecast and the sun has a temperature reading. shit like that.

I'm excited to have contact lenses with micro displays that give you HUDS in real life and that would let me essentially "go through my phone" with my eyes closed. Honestly not crazy scared about much of it, gaze detection and eye tracking could easily go wrong tho (a la black mirror) with forcing you you actually watch ads and/or shit you don't like

advertisers are most definitely going to fuck up all future tech, just like they did everything else.

I think in 20 years phones, watches, tablets, TVs and computers will be represented by just one device that can be shaped into basically anything by the user. In fifty years, Tesla's free wireless electricity for the whole world will change everything

>> No.11305984

Idk when it will be achieved, but full mapping/understanding of the brain would be something very big. This way you could basically send some electricity signal and you would feel the taste of chocolate or something like that. What interests me the most is making the person dream while a computer could send a signal to the brain with a dream landscape(kinda like the matrix).

It's starting to come back to us. We're one of the first of a few batches to use this technology. You've been asleep for a long time. You need to find a way out. You need to wake up.

Smart contracts literally tied to everything. People will be able to place bets on the fly. People will be able to stipulate the conditions of their will based off a set of conditions that would mind fuck is in the present day. Next level betting based off very esoteric conditions. Everything fully automated and paid out through micro payments.

Also someone at some crypto conference was showing a technology where he would walk around the room and a program would map the surroundings in a 3d model. Not sure what this would have to do with crypto but I see this as being huge especially for international espionage.
