why would market makers give up the golden goose? They can flawlessly manipulate the market at a 100$-1000$ range at current price, and every percentage they move the market gets them 5-100x the percentile amount while trading derivatives. For them, a sideways market is far more profitable than a bull run. They have zero control when the rally actually starts. They have all the reasons to suppress one. A extension of the bear market is not beneficial because then the people they would profit off will leave.
