>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

I second this.

With oil prices rising gas prices are going to be really high in california, back when oil was in the $40 range california implemented a tax on gas. The tax wasn't really noticable because the oil market was in a slump. Now with oil rising it will be very noticable. People are going to want to leave. On top of that the whole making it mandatory for females to be on board of directors is going to drive corporations out of town.

Your option expires and your broker will execute it. They take 4950 bucks from your account and buy 100 shares of the underlying stock from whichever bastard wrote the contract you bought. Those 100 shares are worth more than 4950, they're worth 5300 because the stock is worth 53 bucks apiece. You can then do whatever with those 100 shares, sell them or hold them.

Correct, your don't have to buy the shares. In that case your option would just expire worthless and you would have nothing to show for it. Remember, around 60-70% of options end up expiring worthless, the longer you hold them the greater the chances of something happening that results in them being worth zero dollars. Also the strike price (45 dollars in the case above) doesn't exactly match the price you need to get above/below to make a profit. This is because there is a premium associated with writing and buying contracts. Your broker should list the Breakeven price, that's the real number you have to beat. This can be a few cents to a couple bucks above/below the strike price.

GE is pretty much one of these companies that sells boring goods and should be easy for Culp to get into. Anyway though GE is not really going to be good until 2019. I think he can take this to 17-20 in December 2019.

I also think BA, NVDA, SFIX AT BOUNCE OFF 30, NFLX, all have pretty good growth potential.

The dumpening could come + or - as much as one week from October 17th. Speculative investors will pull out the instant they smell the feintest whiff of bearish reversals, myself included.

It's mainly two reasons:

1. Most of the Canadian companies are wildly overvalued already with only a few lagging
2. There are no major catalysts left until Canada rolls out edibles in about a year (I intend to trade this hype as well)

Things that will continue the hype train are cannabis based biopharma labs (clinical trial success, FDA approval etc.) and US producers. US is still very early days yet and there will be plenty of action on weed startups for some time to come. Especially so if more states continue to legalize.

Today was a nice gain day. Only regret is that I didn’t put more money on igc but I’m rather happy that I put it in Nintendo. I suspect igc will be a wild ride and I don’t have much time to keep tabs. Also Abev is comfy. This is the stock that will be good for a few days. As for any more moves, I think I’m ok. Just gotta keep an eye on igc.

It's called quantitative easting.
The idea is that any economy operates on a boom and bust cycle and the government, with careful planning and monitoring, can do things to prevent the bust cycle from turning into full blown depression/recession while at the same time keeping inflation from going out of control.

The thing about fed interest rate hikes is they always increase the rates with a glowing report of how well the economy is doing backed by all the economic metrics worth talking about. So typically a fed hike actually coincides with a short term boost to speculative fiscal instruments, and would only lead to a long term downswing if the fed overshot their rate in combination with some other uncontrollable factor like war/trade/natural disaster etc.

its supposed to cool off the economy so it doesn't grow to fast or drop to fast so we don't end up with something like 87, 29, 08.. ofcourse nothing ever really works perfect in finance thought and thats where we come in and make money.
