With oil prices rising gas prices are going to be really high in california, back when oil was in the $40 range california implemented a tax on gas. The tax wasn't really noticable because the oil market was in a slump. Now with oil rising it will be very noticable. People are going to want to leave. Your option expires and your broker will execute it. They take 4950 bucks from your account and buy 100 shares of the underlying stock from whichever bastard wrote the contract you bought. Those 100 shares are worth more than 4950, they're worth 5300 because the stock is worth 53 bucks apiece. You can then do whatever with those 100 shares, sell them or hold them.

Correct, your don't have to buy the shares. In that case your option would just expire worthless and you would have nothing to show for it. Remember, around 60-70% of options end up expiring worthless, the longer you hold them the greater the chances of something happening that results in them being worth zero dollars. Also the strike price (45 dollars in the case above) doesn't exactly match the price you need to get above/below to make a profit. This is because there is a premium associated with writing and buying contracts. Your broker should list the Breakeven price, that's the real number you have to beat. This can be a few cents to a couple bucks above/below the strike price.

Since *few years* I would say GE, I have a good feeling that its going to be a Best Buy story. CEO Larry Culp is a superstar who took DHR from 61 to 104 in a couple years on selling dental implants and paint.

GE is pretty much one of these companies that sells boring goods and should be easy for Culp to get into. Anyway though GE is not really going to be good until 2019. I think he can take this to 17-20 in December 2019.

I also think BA, NVDA, SFIX AT BOUNCE OFF 30, NFLX, all have pretty good growth potential.
TLRY is pretty safe too probably going to 211 by legalization.

It's mainly two reasons:

1. Most of the Canadian companies are wildly overvalued already with only a few lagging
2. There are no major catalysts left until Canada rolls out edibles in about a year (I intend to trade this hype as well)

Things that will continue the hype train are cannabis based biopharma labs (clinical trial success, FDA approval etc.) and US producers. US is still very early days yet and there will be plenty of action on weed startups for some time to come. Especially so if more states continue to legalize.

I only use options to hedge existing positions on common shares. I do trade warrants sometimes if the strike price is high enough/expiration date far enough out.

Liquidity is not an issue if you're trading any of the big companies at this time. They all have plenty.
