The impression I get is that most people on here are about 30+. Alot of the /biz/ boomer threads have references that are early 90s some late 80s there is very few 00s references which would be ages around 25-29. By 46 you're expected to have been successfully ground down to NPC wageslave who's given up hope of a better life. I hope I'm still open and curious about new ideas when I am 46. I'm 27 and it feels like the more time passes the narrower the range of acceptable actions/words/thoughts becomes. Everyone is trending towards the same life and the same narrow range of talking points and opinions while becoming increasingly sceptical and hostile toward anything outside this narrow cone.

Investing in anything other than your pension (I guess this is what you mean by 401k, UK here) is strictly taboo. No one has the balls or even creativity to invest in something as "risky" and untested as Bitcoin - let alone low market cap shitcoins. The only time these people will invest in crypto is when institutions tell them it's ok and set them up a nice safe crypto pension fund for them to take a fat comission for doing nothing.

Even investing in something like gold or silver would be regarded as eccentric here because most people can't conceive of the possibility that GBP/USD/fiat currency isn't all it's cracked up to be. The possibility that governments aren't these omniscient or even benevolent institutions that have their best interests at heart isn't something most people have even considered. They're so inured by this system that they get offended by any opinions outside the narrow cone described above

I think it's hilarious that young fags here think that anyone in their 40s who doesn't have 1 Million in net worth is retarded. Most of us boomers fell into the wagecuck trap, life's trappings, keeping up with the Jones and consumerist society deathtrap.

To their credit though a lot of 20somethings have gotten redpilled/blackpilled early so in many ways they are going to be much better than most of us boomers. Unless crypto really gains mass adoption, you still need a decent career, save, own a small place and have most of your portfolio in some index funds hopefully having the benefits of 401K, IRA, HSA retirement accounts to keep the government from robbing you a bit less.

I sold my house, broke up with my fiancee and bought a small townhouse in 2016 that is almost paid off by crypto. I have about $350K portfolio besides that and have gotten laughed at by /biz for being a retard for having so little at 45. But I myself always get a laugh at minimum wagecucks here thinking crypto is going to make them millions in a few years so I am here for the entertainment, keeping pulse on this generation and dropping some sage rational financial advise every now and then.

I don't know much about the Aussie system but when social security was started in the US there was something like 5 workers for every retiree (or somewhere around there). Now the bottom half of the population pyramid is at most the same size as the old and usually a lot smaller in pretty much every industrialized country. This is why Japans population has been such an issue as well as being used as justification for refugees in Europe, the whole thing is a ponzi that needs to be fed from the bottom up and the birth rates aren't high enough to cover the costs of the elderly. The likelihood of the system still functioning when we're all old is slim to none, as more literal boomers start retiring the demands placed on the system will likely send the whole house of cards tumbling down.

My brother basically thinks it's a good safety net and it's a good thing you can't pull out until you are retired (except in extreme circumstances) because then everyone would do it and it's there to help save money for people otherwise not intelligent enough to do it. So basically because the value of Super/401k is kept in a wide variety of stocks and such, when the first lot of boomers cash out the value will go down and our supers will be worth less than the money we put into them?
