>spend months applying for software and web dev jobs
>get ONE interview
>it goes extremely well and interviewers are impressed
>then get asked about what salary I am looking for from this job
>tell them £30k because (since it’s a job in London and right in the city)
>employer laughs
>I laugh back wondering what’s so funny
> “I can get a desperate college graduate for £15k and we have 10 more interviews after you”
>suddenly feel a huge bag weights hit the bottom of my stomach
>feel dizzy and reality starts to distort in front of me
>try to negotiate to £20k
> “£15k. Take it or leave it.”
>tell them I’ll think about it
> “Ok. Thank you for coming today. We shall get back to you within the week about the result”
>rejected

experience will get you way further than a degree

i know how you can make money though

start your own company

open the yellow pages, find companies that dont have websites, call them up, and offer them a site

you will make money sooner than you think if you are persistent have a good sales pitch hustle, and also offer a good price

do you have a portfolio? if you don't, start making sites this way for cheap, and then increase your price after you actually have a portfolio

I'm looking for jobs all over Europe right now, plus a few other countries. I search with LinkedIn, you can add all the countries you're interested to the search filter (Indeed has a separate website for each country, so it's a pain). I'd be fucked if I only looked in my country (Ireland), searching all over Europe has massively increased the pool of jobs. Started applying nearly two months ago and I've had 5 phone/skype interviews so far. They were in the UK, Germany and Hungary. Looks like I have a decent chance with the Hungary one. Salaries are fairly low there, though it's really cheap and the job is pretty appealing to me.

You have to be willing to travel though, if you get past the initial skype interview.
