HSBC:
Rate this bank from 0 to 10

>If you actually bank with them:
Rate it's international fees (forex and ATM withdrawls)
Rate how happy you are with interest, credit and savings accounts

My experience:
Most flexible savings account is 0.05% interest (horrible) - up to 3-4.5% interest on very restrictibe accounts (okay to good).
Credit interest and overdrafts/loans are O.K... (18-21% AER variable), penalties are daft.

International banking:
2.75 Forex charge, 2% ATM fee (on their own ATMs) = 4.75% to take your cash out abroad
(+ whatever fee if you use another bank ATM)
This is for Basic/Normal checking accounts.

Advance accounts:
2.75% Forex only and no fees on their ATMs

Premier:
0% on everything.

Summary:
Good bank if you have money, or if you don't fuck around with credit or loans.
Bad bank otherwise and take advantage of the lower classes if you take credit or loans.

Experiences?

ALSO, their exchange rates are NOT GOOD.
Had various members of an HSBC bank tell me they exchange their OWN money at the muslim WesternUnion down the road. Not the best of times.

ALSO, seems to be the best bank if you are a big international client with a lot of money: 0 fees everywhere, sending up to 200k daily without any fees ANYWHERE, good to tax evade, dirty trading business tactics in forex and special metal markets...

Wealthier relative has a premium card,
good rates, low fees.
I, pleb, have standard,
worse rates, higher fees.
The poor subsidise the rich, naturally.

Check out the new goldman sachs easyaccess account, opened today, you can get 1.35/1.5% on savings up to 250k. Just like the HSBC flex saver, but way better rates, all online. Moneysavingexpert have a piece on it if you want to check it out. It's called Marcus. You can link a current account to it and use it for your emergency/general cash savings account.

Also for FX you should look into one of these challenger companies. Monzo, Starling and Revolut (maybe some others). They seem to get way better rates/lower fees.

So the experiences are the same.
Friend of mine holds Premier, and is the same.

I did hear about Goldman Sachs, and am thinking about changing banks.

Why have you chosen to stay with HSBC with a normal account and not move to another bank or to Monzo, Starling or Revolut?

I have no other banks near me, and the post office lets you deposit notes into an hsbc account, and the post office is closer than hsbc. Most of my money goes elsewhere asap

Fair enough.
I am getting memed on the international banking phenomenon. 104.75GBP to take out 100GBP sounds like BS desu.

Banked with hsbc for 10’years and barely have an opinion ... it’s a fucking boomer bank after all... debit card ... credit card ... whatever.

The breakdown cover you get with the HSBC advance current account has saved my arse twice tho.

Strayan here.

I don't know about the bong branches, but here in downunderland HSBC are the best bank I've found. I personally bank with them.

>very competitive fx rates
>offer some of the highest interest rates produce you can get here
>zero fees
>lots of flexibility (e.g. you can bank several currencies with them rather than just the dollaridoo which is good for travellers)

The mobile app is shit though.
