Trader Gondola edition

>I'm new to the stock market, what stocks should I buy?
Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks, and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

anon, is there any explanation why Russel 2000 (IWM) continues to perform so badly last two months relative to DIA and S&P500?
Russel2000 tracks small to mid-cap companies, that means companies that are mostly focused on US domestic market. So with all this trade-war bullshit flinging around, shouldn't investors flow their money into domestic market-focused companies? Or is there something heavily weighting on US-market focused companies?

Good yield, share price above $20, low debt, good ROE, undervalued

I personally think anything around 2% is a good yield. You want something undervalued because if a correction hits, it more than likely won't drop too dramatically. Above $20 because it shows maturity in the stock. Low debt means higher earnings which means higher stock price and possibly future dividend increases.

permabears are the worst kinda people

>> No.11218349

>>11218334
Most of the time, stock markets mostly go up, so if you bet that they will go down, mostly you will be wrong and will lose money. Meanwhile the people who bet that stocks will go up will mostly be right and make money. (As they should: We want people to invest capital in productive enterprises, and so there should be a positive return on that capital to encourage them.)

On the other hand, if you bet that stocks will go down, you have some compensating psychic rewards. For one thing, occasionally stocks will go down, and you will be praised for your prescience in predicting the crash, and the people who were long will be mocked for their complacency. How smart you will feel!

For another thing, even if stocks haven’t gone down, you get to borrow psychically, as it were, against that future moment of glory. You can just go around sort of saying “this is unsustainable and eventually stocks will go down and I will be praised for my prescience,” and people will be surprisingly willing to say “yes that’s correct, I admire your hypothetical prescience.” Particularly since the 2008 financial crisis, financial markets—and financial media—have a strongly entrenched narrative of prescient bears and complacent bulls, a widespread sense that any rising market is suspect and that the cynical view is always the smart one.

Nobody is hailed as a whiz for buying stocks in 2012 and holding them, even though the S&P 500 has more than doubled since then. You don’t get any glory for being long when everyone is long and stocks are going up. You do get money though.

Good day for me. Red day for the dude weed. RIV is establishing a support level at $7. I was kinda hoping it would do this around $5.50-$6 for better short term upside but i'm not complaining much. HVT common shares hit the bottom point of my descending wedge thesis at 0.78. If i'm right, it should pop up to low 0.80 range, hesitate for a day, then run up to around 1.00-1.25 or so. For this trade i'm holding warrants rather than the common because they lost considerably more value on the drop and will have equally considerable upside.

Detach yourself from that 400$ and count on losing it. Put it into a cryptocurrency that's actually being talked about by people overall.

OR just drop your money into the S&P or something.

If you've a family you should probably go for some sort of Dividend based ETF like Vanguard High Dividend Yield ETF (VYM) or any other Dividend based ETF, also pay attention to the expense ratio. VYM is .10% on the dollar, so you'd pay 10$ on a 10,000 investment, and make like 290$ after expense.

Go read a bunch of books man. Make your money earn you money while you sleep.

I think it is a good time to start a position
Some today
Some tomorrow (3 day rule ?)

HCLP may pump when the next ex-dividend day approaches
I still think permian oil will get extracted like mad. Market thinks a higher oil price implies less demand... I think it means more demand.

It's not particularly advice, your best bet is to goto a book store and look into investment literature, and then look for things online. Investopedia is one in particular.

They've an incredible wealth of free education regarding investment.
