Welcome to /pmg/ - Edition #5
>Introduction
This is an inclusive thread for all precious metals discussion that pertain to investing in gold, silver, platinum, and palladium, for coins, rounds, and bars. Other metals (like copper) are welcome as well. Physical possession is always recommended. Please keep discussions civil and evidence-based, and refrain from unnecessary ad hominem arguments. If you prefer crypto over PM, that's fine. If you prefer one PM over others, that's fine too. Just remember, all precious metals are precious and have their rightful purpose in both industry and investment. A good strategy should be to diversify and have as many PM's as possible.

The metal is found in the Earth's crust in the pure, free elemental form ("native silver"), as an alloy with gold and other metals, and in minerals such as argentite and chlorargyrite. Most silver is produced as a byproduct of copper, gold, lead, and zinc refining. Silver has long been valued as a precious metal.

As a seller, they can't just buy a shitload of silver or gold at high prices and sell when the market dips low. When the market dips is when people buy like crazy. Clear out the inventory. If they bought at 16/oz, and the market is buying at $14/oz, they can't just stop selling until its profitable again. and unfortunately it often means they sell at huge losses sometimes.

bullion dealers make money on the spread. they buy at spot and sell at a premium. They are not speculators. Being net long is suicide for a dealer.

That is why when the market drops and dealers don't hedge, they are selling at a loss. Sometimes the losses are so great they go bust and close up shop.

Value in permanent mooning (and its only the beginning),

We alrdy have stories here and there where sicarios ask to be payed in RL staples to pass the US border without drawing attention on them f they get arrested. What I can tell you is this plug-in car production is estimates to be 2,1 million this year, out of a total of 74 million.
That means 72 million are gas and diesel.
Real decline in combustion engine production is still 5 years down the road.
A full electric car that comes in handy (300 mile range for 20-25k, thats a long way down the road)
So I think for 5-10 years the bulk will remain pure or semi(hybrid) combustion.

Sometimes I get coins I'm not crazy about so I will sell them to people I know for about what I paid for it. I'm the "gold guy" in my network so if someone wants a gold coin they know to ask me. It's more of a hobby than something to make money off of. I simply stack gold as a hedge against inflation/economic uncertainly. I also like to collect the dates of different krugerrands. I have dates from the late 70's/early 80's that correspond to arcade game release dates (like space invaders, centipede, frogger lol). I'm not sure what a TA is.

Historical price hovers somewhere around there.

Silver also does not have as many industrial uses as gold does.

>Also, does it matter what it should be as long as u can make a percentage? Could be 50 could 5.... as long as u make money.

It matters greatly because at a certain low enough spot for metal content it no longer makes sense to buy phys and it would be better to paper trade. At the point where it gets that low you would be better off looking at Numismatics as there would not be as much depreciation in price.

Anyone have an opinion on Palladium? These Soviet coins look badass.

My dad did daytrading back in the early 00's and lost a ton of money so I'm fairly adverse to investments that are designed to generate short term gains. I'm thinking 20, 30 years ahead with PM.

What will the value of gold be once the system collapses? Like an ounce of gold is $1200, so 20 ounces of gold is enough for a new car. After the GFC is settled, what will 20oz of gold buy you?
