I keep hearing this meme that I need to network to get a job. Just who the FUCK do I network with? I know dozens of people and so far they’ve been unhelpful in getting me a job because SURPRISE SURPRISE they’re as clueless as me and are looking for jobs as well. But I keep hearing the same old “just keep networking bro :-)” advice. Am I really expected to network with some rich kid whose dad will hire me in an unpaid internship in his sweatshop?

Networking is overrated, it only works if you have already made it to management level. Having buddies across the board helps you being first to know when it comes to important things, also every one of these people haev their own network of buddies at their previous jobs, preferably the same field. Exchanging vital information with these people always keeps you up to date on company insider info, as well as the industry competitors. All these people are connected to each other by working in the same/similar boat. You can not just go on Linkdn or your old classmates expecting anything, other than where to apply for burgerflpping and who sells the best strain of weed this month.

Ive worked 3 years as na operations manager, all those friends Ive made through those days has helped me landing the rigth jobs later on.
