Anyone actually tried using Skywire as a VPN service? How's the performance?

VPN is actually a requirement for me now at what I do. So Im looking for options. Skywire seems to be one of the few good ones, no?

>> No.11117678

Pretty nice. Higher quality than the typical range banned commercial solutions.

It's technically a proxy over SOCKS5, not a VPN, btw.

i've tried it. Literally can't get a connection speed faster than 60 KB/sec. Averages around 25 KB/sec.

Only thing available is socks 5, no VPN.

Posting with Skywire right now. It's very fast. If its slow i can choose a different node to connect to.

gtfo. My raw download speed is 15 Mpbs. So Skywire is about 40% which is GREAT compared to other VPNs.

LARP. My default download speed is 15 Mbps and I get 5-7 Mbps on Skywire.

I'm calling bullshit. Link to node key/app key.

Most peoples internet connection in the U.S. is Asynchronus so you'd be more likely to run into bandwidth starved users than those who have plenty to share.

link it up bitch.

Pretty much all the nodes Ive connected with have good speed. Perhaps check your setup.

Eh, just depends on who you're connecting to and what you're trying to push pull from their connection.

Like I wanted to watch capeshit because I hate myself and the site kept buffering, so I looked up the server location and found it in Russia, then connected to a Russian node. Improved the connection quite a bit.

Nothing up with my setup (although i will admit it is non-standard).

Just tested provided keys, and i am getting much better speeds (3.6 Mbps on fast.com)
but this honestly the first time i've seen it this fast.

I've been using this on and off for months and more often than not i'm averaging abysmal speeds such as on

what is the point of using this as a VPN service as opposed to just buying one like NordVPN or something

>> No.11117880

entirely possible. finding new nodes is kind of shit though, you have to browse 5 at a time until you hit something in a country i'm looking for and hope it isn't straight PISS.

Agreed, hope they fix that soon. The Craigslist cluster map UI would be so nice for this.

because eventually it will be an entire new darknet interwebs with its own apps like amazon and facebook where the user owns and controls all their data

its not just a vpn
