How can Monero be effectively used as a method of exchange (its stated purpose, by creators AND holders) when its speculated value is expected to be volatile and increase? In other words, why would I buy a pizza today with Monero if within a year it's possible that same amount of Monero could be $1000?

It seems like speculation is the very thing keeping it from fulfilling its intended purpose as a currency. I guess this would be ok if it embraced the store of value meme like bitcoin, but it hasn't.

Which proved to be fair criticism. The fact that it's been said a long time does not discredit it. A decade after launch it's more clear than ever that btc's only use is as a speculative investment vehicle or a way to move ill-gotten funds.

No true Monero holder wants to use Monero on a daily basis. The value of Monero is holding wealth in untraceable, impossible to confiscate non physical form.

Also, buying illegal shit on the darknet- which was the entire reason bitcoin took off in the first place.

>He still thinks it's Monero that's unstable

I bet he doesn't even realize that the purchasing power of his fiat and the value of everything his owns has decreased 1000x while Monero has remained rock solid for four and a half years running.
