Anyone had experience doing freelance jobs via Upwork, Freelancer etc?

Is it just a worthless pajeet-fest or can you actually earn a living from this?

I hire developers through Upwork, used to use freelance.com and vworker.com before they were bought out. I don't hire Pajeets (anymore) and only hire Ukranians/Russians, so I'm sure there's potential for a non-Pajeet.

I just checked my field on upwork and it is absolutely FILLED with street shitters.

too many pajeets

Really doesn't matter. People like me are deliberately filtering out Pajeets anytime we make a new listing, there's no way I'm the only one. No one is hiring these scamming fucks desu.

any cool scam story where you got scammed or the other way around?
also unrelated, do you always hire through upwork?

I worked there a few times and sometimes we end up agreeing on taking the job outside the page, its extremely beneficial for me since they charge a fuckton of the percentage of my salary.
It's ok to find quick people or a quick job, but you want to get out from there as soon as possible

Hi, I use upwork
Me and my girlfriend are both Venezuelans that made a living through upwork and got enough money.
I got a job through Upwork which required me to create content for a cryptocommunity in Mexico.
After a year and a half working with the guy, he asked me if I was willing to go to Mexico with a one-year contract.
I don't make thousands of dollars, but I make a decent living, every now and then I apply to jobs on Upwork about translating, content creation, and digital marketing. I don't get hired as much as I'd like to but I get decent paying jobs, like a 50 bucks article with SEO, SEM and all that.
Things that take me 2 hours to do essentially.
Commissions are high though, Upwork takes 20% off your paid money and charges an extra 10% to the client.
If you're going for content creation, translations, and digital marketing, you're gonna have to giveaway your work as in you will have to charge pajeet tier money for a complex work, but if you charge that low, people will think you're either desperate or a pajeet, if they think you're a pajeet they won't hire you.

Anyway, ask me anything

Indians are always scamming. Either billing too many hours if you have an hourly contract or not following instructions and wasting time. One time a Pajeet threatened to take my source code after he fucked up something I told him to do and I refused to pay. I told him cool idgaf and then nothing ever came of it, of course.

>also unrelated, do you always hire through upwork?

Yeah it's just easier/cheaper than the alternative and it's good to have a mediator in case shit hits the fan and some Pajeet or other dev wants to fuck you over or w/e. I used to work direct but developers slack off too much that way.

not him, but I once got hired by a guy that wanted me to transcribe the answers to a questionare to his dissertation professor.
The lady was a 70 years old rural lady, and he wasn't asking questions in order, actually, the lady was just answering everything through metaphores and stories.
So the guy wasn't asking any questions, he handed me 15 questions questionaire, the audio he gave me was 2 hours long and he wanted it in less than 2h30m
The guy said that everything was clear and easy to understand. 30 minutes after taking the job he texted me to tell me that I didn't have to transcribe all of it, just the answers.
None of that shit was explained in the job post. That was the worst gig I've had in Upwork

My girlfriend something even worst though, she applied for a job about translating documents and maintaining the format of each document. My girlfriend took the job because she needed the job experience in Upwork to be noticed by other clients.

The fucking pajeet was asking 5 dollar per 5000 words and he'd send the documents at 11 pm with 3 hours deadlines. Now, my girlfriend work for a University in Canada where she is hired to create classes for vet students.

Hey, I would like to do animation/3D via Upwork when I finish college. Is it possible to make living in that kind of field (assuming I am not a pajeet and have decent portfolio)?

>Hey, I would like to do animation/3D via Upwork when I finish college. Is it possible to make living in that kind of field (assuming I am not a pajeet and have decent portfolio)?
Absolutely!
But you shouldn't untill you're done in college, you should start a portfolio. These freelance sites rely on your background. If you have certifications, a decent portfolio, contacts, and a good LinkedIn profile, you will make money.
Don't just put all our eggs in one nest though, go to fiverr, go to freelance, go to workana, post your shit on twitter and Instagram, go to your niche's forums if there are any.
Create a persona, your persona that will be the face of your business. You need to get the word out there that you exist mate.
If you're, for example, spending 3 hours a day on the Internet doing nothing productive, at least have 1 hour a day to create your persona
Start off by
Creating a DevianArt
Creating a Twitter
Creating an Instagram
Creating an LinkedIn profile
Getting info on what certifications are actually good for your niche
Go to Coursera, find cheap courses and invest time and money on them as in Coursera you also get certifications from good universities around the world, such as Harvard, NY U, Oxford
Don't just create your profiles, use them!
Make some time to build your connections. You made something cool on your free time? Add a water mark, post it on your Twitter, your Instagram, your LinkedIn and other forums.
A degree is useless these days because it's all about experience, start building your own background. If you're under 24, you still have the time to do so.
Also, if you're gonna whore yourself and sell porn commissions, then you gotta separate your porn commissions from your professional profile because that might hurt your reputation

Guy was 29 from what I recall. Still, that job sucked, and the guy didn't even pay me, that was the worst part
Two hours of my life wasted on listening a PhD granny with an Idaho accent.

Is there anyone here who's good at coding, website creation, and cryptography?

I work for cryptocurrency company and am potentially looking for new part time hires. If my golden goose leaves that is.0
