Did Goldman Sachs short the market before it was leaked that they were putting off opening a trade desk for their clients to trade crypto?

Interesting. But regardless, we all know news doesn’t control the market. We have to tell the normies a nice narrative though

I'm don't agree with that. Look at many of the dumps this year. A significant number were triggered by news, be it regulatory (India banning bank users from accessing crypto, China banning crypto events, etc.), lack of ETF approval earlier this summer ( not the latest one), etc. Obviously news isn't the only thing, there are whales positioned to short, but the news certainly spokes normies into dumping further than it might. Obviously institutions like Goldman will know about insider shit about which way regulators in countries will go with various decisions about crypto. I will admit this is certainly speculation, but consider that when Goldman indicates through unofficials that they were considering a trade desk, now they aren't because of how volatile the market it is, they understand the implications of the weight of what they say. Makes sense that they might get it to dump, knowing the government will approve an ETF later this month, just so they can accumulate more crypto.

They realize crypto speculators are hoping that crypto will be legitamized by the financial industry seriously backing crypto. It's one of the reasons why things keep crashing, there is a lot of hype about Wall Street/pensions/etc. getting exposure to crypto, thereby driving up the market cap. When something gets in the way, like a government banning crypto, the market takes a shit.
