This is the Canadian chart so prices are in CAD.

Retrace imminent. Huge gaps. First support is ~$58 and it's paper thin. Next support down from that is... $38-$40. Call it $40 due to round number trading bias. Sell volume on the weekly chart this week (see following post) is the highest it has been since the dumpening of January 2018. That dumpening caused a decline from the $44 high all the way down to $20.80 at the low.

Good luck hodlers. :)

Considering how crazy AMD's stock price has been in the past month, its definitely possible.

Keep in mind that Intel's revenue is ~10x larger than AMD. If AMD can grab 10-15% of Intels server marketshare (which they are very capable of doing) then I think a 40$ share price is justifiable.

Granted they have not accomplished this yet, and I think most of this craze is betting on AMD executing in taking that market share.

All that bullshit in the OP about options, put, calls and all that nonsense trading lingo seems like static and unnecessarily complicated to me. I just want to invest in companies/technologies I think will increase in value a lot in the next 5-10 years, and I want to have an interface where I can monitor the value, and be able to sell/buy when I want to. Correct! This was baffling to me when I first started as well. I thought that, since it's the stock market and there is a mild barrier to entry of having to set up a brokerage account to trade on it, majority of people involved would be, ya know, competent. Took me about six months to realize, no, there are a lot of really stupid people on the stock market and a big chunk of day/swing trading theory relies on lots of people fomo buying peaks, selling bottoms, holding through crashes. If everyone sold instantly when a ticker got overextended and bubbly it would be a lot harder to make consistent gains.

An important distinction is between unrealized and realized capital gains / loss.

Unrealized capital gain / loss does not usually factor into your taxable income (e.g., if you continue to hold one share of a stock that you purchased a year ago for $10, and the current market price is $20, you have an unrealized gain of $10.)

Realized capital gains / losses are taxed (e.g., you sell one share of a stock that you purchased a year ago for $10, and the price you sold it for is $20, you have a unrealized capital gain of $10).

So if your investments appreciated in value by $10k during the year and you didn't sell any of them, you would pay no tax on that. If you sold your investments for a net $10k profit, you would be taxed on whatever your capital gains tax rate is for your tax bracket, which is probably 15% unless your ordinary income is extremely high or extremely low. There are also other distinctions like short vs. long-term which may factor into the rate.

Realized capital losses can be used to offset tax on capital gains, and remaining net losses can be carried forward to future tax years to net out additional capital gains. Though my understanding is that carry forward isn't ideal in many cases due to the time value of money.

FINALLY

at long last, my ultimate godmode indicators are complete.
for the top one, i managed to smoosh together keltner channels and bollinger bands, then added on a "chikou span" 26 periods back that prints out the heiken-ashi candle color (i dub this component the heiken-ashi memeline). its useful to judge volatility as well as momentum/trend.

for the bottom one i mashed together a volume oscillator that i tweaked from some tradingview public library (green and red histogram), then a chimera of my two favorite entry/exit oscillators: the CCI and the stoch. its basically a stochastic thats made up of two different CCIs (blue/pink line is K-CCI, and yellow line is D-CCI).

now all i have to do is zone in on the perfect inputs/variables and ill never have to fucking think ever again

what about the fact that the market has a 10% correction on average every 11 months. isn't being patient instead of dollar cost averaging better? in a strong uptrend the money you put in lower is already working, you're just not contributing new money. the new money you get every paycheck is put in an account instead of invested every check. now you have a larger pool of new money to buy the next dip of 10-20% which is an historical certainty every year or two tops

I'm just saying, while you're waiting for a dip and sitting on cash, that cash isn't doing anything for you. Your strategy works better in some markets and worse in others. You should probably go back-test it against the past few years, and that'll help you quantify what counts as a downtrend (9%? 15%?). I suspect you'll find that sitting on cash through 2017 (and before that, 2013) causes you to miss out on a lot of gains.

You seem like you made up your mind already though, so, what are you asking us for?

just a heads up in general though, if your mindset is a narcissistic "I'll show those NORMIES who's smarter here!" you're gonna lose a whoooooole lotta money

that's not really my mindset. I want to make money not satisfy that I'm right and someone else is wrong. I want to optimize for the sake of making more money and reducing risk. to me, it seems like the best of both worlds. so I figured I'd ask opinions to see if anyone agrees. i don't ever sell till retirement, so I don't feel that I miss anything stacking cash through your uptrends, because the majority of my money is in there working. new money comes in slow anyway because it's from check to check. so it's much less valuable than the old money. and yeah 10 or so percent is when i'd begin to contribute again.

I think you're misunderstanding a bit though. you use the terms "missing out" or even "losing money" which would imply selling (which isn't in the plan) the only cash i'm 'sitting on' would be a relatively small percentage of the overall portfolio from recurring paychecks that accumulate until deployed. the majority is always fully invested and not touched.
