The down cycle has only begun.

People investing in BHP for instance may not have fathomed that it could trawl around in the $10–15 range for a decade or more. Just like it never went sub-$25 during the resources boom.

Companies like Fortescue and Santos are too high-cost. They're sitting ducks.

>> No.1096392

this is mostly risky resource advice. if you're into dividends and blue chips then its very different

I usually read the investor presentations to get an idea of the objectives, costs, management experience, cash on hand and timeframe (VERY IMPORTANT).

then i look up the market for the resource in question. as an example:

>Zinc

looks like total shit at the moment so shares on companies that mine that will be low on share price and may dip, but if it rallies later in the year you will probably make a profit (hint: look at stock levels on the london metal exchange for resources to get an idea where this is going to go - supply is falling rapidly which means price is going up)

>Oil

people are 50/50 where its going to go. OPEC could assemble and cut production but Iran is in the market now so they have less influence on prices. gamble away!

>Gold

gonna be good year. this is your least risky bet

if you know the market though and can pick a business you think will profit, go for it.

Fortescue could be the one that makes it if they clamp down, liquidate just enough and get their debt down. I've always thought their management was good enough (but what do I know?), just high debt.

Purchased at the right time during the coming slow down they could come out of it still holding some good assets and make a bit of money for whoever paid the right price.

But then again my general thoughts is to stay away from resources unless you know you're more than 50% gambling.

Hello

I'm on neetbux and I am getting roughly $1,500 at the beginning of March. I'm a FT student and I get $440 a fortnight from centrelink and I make roughly $200 on weekends cash in hand.

Is there much I can do with this or is it not enough to get started? Not looking for quick profits but I would like to see my money grow throughout the year. I've been doing some research but there is a hell of a lot to take in so I'm just after some early guidance.

I know I won't be a millionaire by 2017 with only $1,500 but I want to put it to good use before I blow it all on piss and durries.

It's either a multi billion dollar company or it's a corporate shell with no funding and barely enough income to pay its staff let alone fund serious R&D. Hence the massive price volatility over the last few years.

I'm still invested in the company because I see a properly funded firm (long term clinical and sales partnerships) that's been making moves for the long term, eg. the NASDAQ listing.

As a potential buyer you have to be aware that getting a therapy to market can take decades. The company will not have some positive news to hand in cases where market sentiment wanes - their trials and other research runs to its own timetable.

It seems your application requires a bit more information than mine did. I didn't have a separate form to fill out either. There was a section on residence/living arrangements where I said I was living at X address with parent paying $75 a week.

I've just checked my statement and pic related is what I get paid. There's no mention of rent assistance or anything like that (which is a separate payment). So perhaps my living conditions allowed me to receive the maximum youth allowance possible?

They could reduce their dividend by half and still provide a better yield than interest on cash. Given that the share price is largely a function of its dividend quality, it would no doubt depreciate in response to a cut, but that's just a buying opportunity.

They've also made large steps towards taking the Manuka honey market by the hrorns and for any of you with a knowledge of honey its pretty much liquid gold.

Also been eye simon hackett's RFX which is a solar/battery producer. They've made some great gains this year and if they keep doing well they'll probably be picked up by origin etc for providing batteries for small scale solar in the home. Tesla's power wall is just too expensive here and there's just way too much hype about the product.

My last is getting into a Lithium miner like ORE. I just need more capital without touching my Savings.
