Generally 33% unless they litigate, then it goes up to 45% (at least at the law firm i worked at).

I went away for four months for college. The master tenant and landlord claimed I had moved out, and when I got back they changed the locks and threw my luggage out from the hallway onto the street. I sued and they settled after a year of litigation.

Weird, the lawyers I spoke to said 33% or any award of attorney's fees if it went to trial. They didn't want the case, though, for whatever reason.

Were you paying rent still?

My back hurt and I had gum aches after I got evicted. That accounts for $30,000 of the settlement with the master tenant and the full settlement with the landlord (though the landlord's settlement also covered in part the property damage), for a total of $65,000 nontaxable.

What they did was really mean. $50,000 taxable with the master tenant.

My feelings were really hurt. $20,000 taxable with the master tenant.

So how much are you looking to get after taxes?

>> No.10898090

>>10897981
>>10898053
Oh, the property damage itself I estimated at around $2,000. I could only itemize about $500 worth of stuff, I think.

>>10898065
I don't know. The master tenant only paid a percentage up front, so I will have to get payments over time and it depends on what my income is year to year. This year I will see $40,000 without taxes.

>>10898010
I paid rent for one month while I was away, but the master tenant ignored my subsequent rent checks.
