You're failing to account for insincere companies doing this on their own bottles -- they can show video proof they bottled the wine and then tagged it, but then swap the wine before selling it on the market.

That said, the wine industry is not a good example of this because wine producers are generally sincere. But the same example could apply to industries known for producer fraud, which would be any product that can come from producers in China.

>> No.10880447

Jesus Christ this thread is grade A retardation. There are different solutions that are appropriate to different price points. Nobody is going to use a basic label system for bottles of wine worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. On the other hand, using such a system vastly diminishes the practicality of fucking with bottles in the sub 100 dollar range (i.e. most of what is sold on the shelves at the state wine monopoly in China). On a cheaper level you have simple RFID tags, which are less secure but again provide a significant preventative benefit for mass produced cheap items like packets of cigarettes. No tag (including the hypothetical system mentioned in the article) is 100% secure. What they do is create a massive amount of additional friction for counterfeiters, meaning that most of the time it simply wont be worth the effort. That is obviously a huge systemic success, even if you can't remove all chance of any tampering. When you start talking about tags on the inside of bottles, then you certainly do get a higher level of security but you also get a massive impracticality in that tags have to be applied at the point of manufacture and have to have all the individual manufacturers opted in, as opposed to applying tags at the point of import.

>> No.10880691

>>10880527
The need for blockchain is to provide a trustless system for tracking. This backs up the anti-tamper systems. If we take the example of someone buying a bottle of wine with a VeChain tag from the store, they can check and make sure that the bottle has remained in the custody of reputable handlers. On the other hand, if you buy a bottle in a cornershop that still has the tag but has dropped off the radar for six months and has possibly been in private hands after being sold from the monopoly shop, then you'd be much more wary about whether it had been stored correctly or siphoned out with a needle. The various elements add various additional degrees of security and the traceability element that the blockchain provides is a very important part of that.

>>10880685
Walton is actually better than IBM in this department. IBMs chip is still a prototype while walton is rolling theirs out next month ahead of schedule. Its not even just an RFID chip. Its a mini computer.

The essential difference between Vechain and Walton is the layer at which the blockchain is implemented. Walton has patents on the txID-reading RFID chips with memory, which allows the blockchain to be implemented in the foundational level through the RFIDs. They are world leaders in chip technology, and make their own chips. Vechain does not make their own chips. They outsource the hardware, and have the hardware made compatible with their blockchain via API. So their blockchain is implemented several layers up in the application layer, through business-centralized control. So, Vechain is inherently less decentralized and less secure.

This is the essential difference, and it's not a deal-breaker for Vechain, but it is a fact, and it does matter. Walton is somewhat ironically better at authentication than Vechain for this reason, despite Vechain's original main use-case as an anti-counterfeiting product (they've since expanded their use-case into cold logistics and other areas).

But there are other advantages to making your own chips. Vechain is using someone else's hardware and then repurposing it for their blockchain. Walton has built the chip from the ground up to be compatible with the blockchain and improved the standard chip to be much more advanced, with encryption, fine minute movement detection, anti-collision logic to prevent skipping, low voltage technology so the chips can last more than 20 years, and other advancements over standard chips. Making their own chips also makes them cheaper. Standard RFIDs are 15 to 20 cents. Walton's are less than 5.

Wow, this is even dumber than usual for biz.

Whatever 17 year old incel posted this has clearly never opened a bottle of wine. If he had, he’d know that there’s a SEAL that covers the cork and the top of the wine bottle that you can’t replace once you’ve taken it off. It’s also there on screw top bottles. How the fuck are you going to syringe wine out and resell it with a broken seal?

Even if you could, to do this at scale would require tons of time, then you’d have to somehow convince someone who buys at scale that you’re reputable. Then. as soon as one sip of the wine was taken by anyone who knows anything, the scam would be exposed and traced back to you.

Even further, if this halfwit knew anything about Vechain, they’d know the chip for the wine solution goes inside that seal and gets destroyed when you open the bottle. When you tried to close it back up, which isn’t even possible, the chip would no longer work.

This is so uninformed, idiotic and low IQ it’s fucking painful.

Yeah, I feel like explaining Walton here is not worth the point. It's arguing with a bunch of shills that aren't going to change their opinions.

Everyone seems to think of Walton as primarily a RFID tag maker and nothing more not realizing their sensor tech (made by their own subsidy) take them a whole lot further. Already showcased recycling systems, smart cities, smart stores. Some of which has been demoed in an almost final form. Expanding into agriculture, art and a heap more. With all that being said, their own scanners and software are miles ahead for warehouse and industrial use.

Still not convinced about any supply chain tracking in retail usage yet. Anti-tampering is hard to perfect and more than likely a gimmick that will die down fast.
