You have to tell him after work that you will make it your life's missions to ruin his life and his family's life. That's the benefit of being single...you have nothing tying you down. If you involve his kids, even if there is a 1% chance something negative happens to them, he will back off.

I would personally say something like "If you ever talk shit about me again, I will make it my life's mission to make you and your family starve to death. I have absolutely nothing to lose."
