I got a job offer today!
Only problem is I need a car.

I was thinking of buying a new Honda Fit.
It is one of the cheapest cars in America and is really low maintenance.
However there are two problems:

1) My car money is in Eth at $429. Currently worth about 3k, so down about 1500.
2) Buying a new car (even a cheap good car) doesn't seem the biz way.

Is there a better way of buying a car, without just telling me to buy used?
I don't want to Uber or anything involving driving. I plan on only putting 5000 or so miles a year on the thing.

Tell me your secrets to car buying biz!

Because I only want to put 2k down plus taxes and fees and given that a new Honda Fit is 18k plus taxes and fees that means I have to finance 16k.

You with me? 16k financed on a brand new car where the loan is actually easier to get than a loan on say a 12k used car and likely lower interest. If I had 4k down maybe used would be better, but not 2k.

dude, you can EASILY get a decent used car for 2k flat, especially if you only need to put 5-10k miles per year on it. Get a 10+ year old Honda or Nissan with 150-200k miles and you'll be golden, you will definitely find something under 3k. Think of it this way, you could literally afford a different used car in this price range every year for 8 years instead of buying the new car AND STILL SAVE MONEY because of interest. 90's to early 2000's Toyota corolla, camry or celica. Also 90's Nissan Sentra's & Honda Civic/Accords are fine, the sperg sperging out about Honda's is just a sperg.

If for whatever reason you have something against any of those an cheap American alternative would be any GM with a 3800 series ii engine (90's buick Regal, Riviera, Park Avenue, Pontiac Grand Prix SE I can't remember, there's a bunch) those are all cheap/somewhat bulletproof.

If you absolutely HAVE to be the hipsterish of "unique" Hipster douchebags then an old Volvo 240 is still cheap and good for 200k-400k.

All above are $1500 for high mileage to $5000 for low.

If you buy new for what you need it for, neck yourself.

I don't care enough to check prices on either one of those but I don't really get your logic here.

What's the cheapest you're going to get any brand new car for? $16-20k maybe? you can get tons of cars in the 2005-2010 range for under $5k and it's not like owning an old car means CONSTANT $1k repairs, like I said my 2005 Mustang that I've been driving for the last 8 years or so has cost me maybe $1000 in non-regular maintenance (replaced a water pump, alternator, fuel pump) and then I've done most of the regular maintenance myself (battery change, new tires once, brakes twice) and I'll continue driving it for as long as I can get away with, hopefully several more years. When it's finally time to replace it I'll do the same thing, find a car from in the 2008-2012 range probably and make it last as long as possible.

Sure you can get unlucky, buy a lemon, and then end up having to rebuild the engine or some shit after owning it for 6 months, and in that case ya it's gonna suck and cost more than if you'd bought something newer I suppose, but I've owned plenty of used cars in my life and never been burnt.

Buying used seems like a lottery and it can really screw you if you get unlucky. I have a friend who's a mechanic, and he basically told me that on paper two cars can look very different.

A) Around 90k miles on the clock
B) Around 50k miles on the clock

Car B might on paper be the better choice, but if the guy who owned car B only drove a few miles to work so the engine never got warmed up and was bad at keep the thing serviced, it's in far worse condition than the other one.

>just check lol

When you end up dumping more money into repair than you paid for the damn thing, it starts to hurt.

Being 100% honest I’d rather get T-boned in anything other than a Honda Fit. Little shoebox cars vs an idiot in an SUV and the SUV will brutally crush you in one of those things.

>boomer bigger is better and safer mentality

Look up crash ratings pls. Also roll over etc.

Not saying the fit is the best option but this SUV fag delusion is bad.

As a consumer I’ll stay away from the fit. In any collision, whether it’s your fault or not, you want to have the car with solid construction. Just buy a used Volvo or Honda off Craigslist, clean it up, and it’s most likely safer than driving a shoebox. Plus you won’t look like s o i every time you drive somewhere.

I have been salivating over one of those in the last couple of weeks, probably one of the best cars ever made that a normal person could afford. it would be an LS430 though wouldn't it being 2004

Are you retarded? Physics doesn’t just stop working for a Honda Fit. Half of the cars on the road have bodies that are two times larger than the fit, and the heavy car will most likely smash and keep going into that tiny car.

You clearly don't understand physics. Look at the frame on something like the smart car, its not all about size. Like I said , look up crash ratings boomer.

recently had to get a new distributor, redid the belts and the oil pan. it's the only set of repairs that has cost more than the one new set of tires about three years ago. so far my car has probably only taken an extra 3k.

Longer, heavier cars, with steel constructions have significantly longer crush zones than the small engine bay of a Honda Fit, giving them an advantage in head on collisions. In a side collision, it would be easier to get crushed by a larger vehicle in a smaller car.
