i did this for a year, along with a year long break to fight a couple legal cases (dont ask)
as long as youre above a 2.0 GPA no one cares, they want experience (what projects did you do while at school?)

my parents were helping with tuition, which is nice, but i only made $10k a year these past two years (well 7k one year, 11k the other), so now i need a new job while part time, or use robinhood savings to move out until i get a job

or continue living at home, so no girlfriend/thots

engineering degree alone is worthless to most places, except very limited internships, its why i got into stocks in the first place (and why i wish i had bought 2 BTC when it was $600 a piece, instead of one AMZN stock)

I'm tempted to get student loans to cover rent for a year or two simply to avoid going full on neet, but im currently debt free, so idk if a credit score is worth ruining for that quite yet

Indeed. Internships are an excellent way to figure out if you'll like your job or not.

IMO we are at the decision point for AMD or maybe soon. If the question is "is this the next 10 times money stock" I think AMD at 10.50 was NVDA at 26.00. What happened back in 2016 was NVDA dropped about 10% then never stopped basically.

So I would look for a 10% drop on AMD (assuming you don't have this) and then either it settles down to the 18-20 range again or up to 105. 2021 is statistically what it should be 105 if it copies NVDA chart.

But most students aren't cut out for a serious class so you either get highschool 2.0 as the professor has to have at least a few people pass or you get the academic killing fields. The problem is we don't teach kids to think and learn for themselves then they get to college and they are expected to teach themselves and then prove what they have learned. There is also a devaluing when idiots who will never get higher than works at Starbucks are getting degrees. Part of the problem is there is not a high demand for people with degrees in history and linguistics, hence why my local Starbucks is full of BAs and a two MDs. college at this point is completely unrelated to "smarts" because its so full of garbage and awful teachers most of the time. not to mention like >>10822910 said, the peers are relatively diluted as a result of everyone needing a degree, and this translates into diluted classes and requirements to prop up numbers.

nepotism allows you to bypass that somewhat, but they arent mutually exclusive either

youre right that college gives you opportunity to the next tier up in jobs above mcfucking yourself4lyfe, and youre right that most that dont go to college end up poor and hopeless, but lets not confuse it for making you more likely to become fabulously rich, because that requires an entirely different skillset, and its one that they DONT teach in college

it's relatively safe. Long term care is growing day by day. In Canada at least, there's a long-as-fuck waiting list just to get into a nursing home for the last days of your life. Ton of retirement homes making bank off all these too. Only need one nurse on a shift while the PSWs do the actual work. i do a lot of original bands (in 3 rn) that tour occasionally and put out records and sell merch (my friend has a printshop so we cut out overhead by paying for supplies and doin it ourselves), but the real money comes from weddings, cover gigs, fill in gigs, and my favorite: pit orchestra gigs. pit orchestra members get a lot of money and i play a lot of different instruments and can read, so it ups my market value. its a bummer that a lot of schools had arts cut tho, so theyre harder to come by these days. still get some professional theatre ones.

highest paying pit orchestra gig i ever got was the time one of the guys crashed his car so they needed a last minute fill in at this really professional theater. several thousand bucks for 2 hrs. but i had to essentially sightread the whole thing. what a rush. that was when i was in boston pretending i was going to berklee tho. those kinds of jobs dont exist where im at now

Agreed. Lots of retail fomo. Very overbought on Canopy and several others. I'm thinking considerable retrace, then one more push up to Canadian recreational sales start on October 17. After that it'll be near market for Canadian LPs. Cannabis pharma should hold up as that runs on different timeline with different catalysts. Speculative investment in big US cannabis companies will have a couple moons between now and end of 2019. Especially so if presidential election has people running on pro-legalization platform. Doesn't even matter if they win, just the talk itself should be enough to stoke the hype.

My portfolio is 90% cash as of close today.

We've seen this pattern before and it's going to crash hard. Don't FOMO withoutat least having a stop limit that you can accept a 10% loss on (anything less will just trigger instantly and you might as well have never tried). I don't know how much you've been following weed stocks, but this shit can basically go from -5% to +5% or vice versa within the same hour. The reason my stop limit on WEED even triggered is because it literally went down a dollar within 5 minutes.. then back up 10% the next day.

I may have missed out on extra profits today but I'm totally cashing out right now. At least bagholders back in January had July (now October) to hope for the next wave of bagholders. Right now.. the US and so on, but nothing really concrete, and honestly that shit and years beyond has been priced in already.

I'd also recommend reading Trading for a Living by Alexander Elder and How I Made 2 Million in the Stock Market by Nicholas Darvas. I have a strategy for shorting weed stocks that worked out well earlier this year and shields you somewhat from trying to short when sector is in max FOMO: wait out the first drop and watch the bull trap form. When you see that lower high top out and buy volume drop off, initiate short. Stronger confirmation and the trend will likely remain on your side for a longer period of time. Shorting when it's flying up like this is the short equivalent of a knife catch.

I'm going hard on lululemon next week.

Luxury retail has been killing it.

Got profit on Williams Sonoma but shit did i exit too early. Missed out on about 8x more gains. Gotta work on not selling too early. I've been playing daily SPY calls a few times a week if futures are looking really good and those added about 7% on my weekly. Had a bit of a trading existential crisis mid week but got some good sleep and got back in the game. Looking forward to next week.

The path to sound bullish mentality should be respected. The greatest struggles involve not only trusting yourself but trusting the trend as well. It's easy to be a bear. It takes confidence to be a bull.

I compare all the chipmakers with one another, I try to find best value.
interestingly enough; micron has 1 billion+ shares outstanding and creates 12 dollars of value annually (forward looking up to debate; since this season will likely be rough)
AMD has about 960 million shares outstanding and created about .45 cents of value last year
Intel's been having a hiccup but it more or less has been continually creating value for its shareholders; steady, long term non-bumpy growth of about .03-05+ cents every quarter

so it boggles my mind to see people hyping up AMD; technically the set up is dogshit god awful if you want to trade AMD (fyi I'm short amd); Micron's poised for 60 dollar value within 2 weeks end
what the fuck is going on here, is everybody being roped into AMD because they're booming during the same boom season every other chipmakers benefiting from? because AMD's finally above water when everybody else has been in a yacht financially?
they're going to be burned when the tariffs hits AMD just as hard as MU gets hit this earnings report, the eps will go negative and the hedge funds will have the cushion they're looking for by shilling their shit on every news site out there, and I'm getting burned by association by not going long on these puts

Picked up a dicks contract when it dipped down and got a .40 jump at the end of day. Hibbett and Foot Locker missed but I don't think that correlates to Dicks missing earnings or guidance. Hibbett has always kind of sucked and Foot Locker is basically nogs-r-us. Dicks is where people go to buy $200 bats for their shitty kids.

People are willing to pay a premium for a company that has a very good chance of stealing 10-15% marketshare from intel in the upcoming year.

AMDs market cap is 10% of Intels, if they can make even a small dent in Intel's stranglehold, thats a pretty huge deal desu.

Value investing isn't working anymore. Its about who has the potential to hype up the most promise

What does /smg/ think about the "Everything" Bubble?

https://www.forbes.com/sites/jessecolombo/2018/08/24/u-s-household-wealth-is-experiencing-an-unsustainable-bubble

As someone who lived and survived through the 2008 collapse, it's a little spooky. I'm going to apply the same loss-mitigation techniques I had back then (it was pretty obvious the housing bubble was going to burst), but I don't know if it'll be enough.

I think what Buffett-sama means is:
- invest responsibly: in non meme companies with solid cash flows and moat
- no margin
- keep some cash to buy the dip on companies you love
- trust your intuition and thesis and if nothing contradicts them hodl

I think many people misunderstood his never sell philosophy

In the past 2-3 weeks I ran it down from $340 to $303, then shorted again from $299 so underwater currently on that but overall still in profit. Not too bad considering I shorted almost immediately before the Saudi and then "go private" Tweet. Just holding on tight, something has to give with the stock still so high. I see this as a failed bailout attempt and at best Tesla is looking at share dilution, at worst Chapter 11. The options for them are narrowing and none look good for the stock. Some accounting tricks might paint a not so terrible picture in Q3 but the market should see through it. The writing is on my the wall.
