I used to have pic related, you pour whole coffee beans in there and it grinds them and makes fresh coffee.

Gotta say though, the coffee very often tasted bland or 'off', with often a shitty aftertaste that lasted hours, even when making coffee the "right" way (i.e. making an espresso and then adding hot water, instead of letting the hot water run through the grind for a full cup).
It also gets filthy in there.

I now have a Nescafe "Oblo" machine that uses cups pretty much like Keurig cups, and I have to say it's an improvement in every way (except maybe price).
Much easier and quicker, and the coffee tastes better and has a wonderful aftertaste for hours.

I'm just going to assume that the Philips machine I had (see pic) was just shitty.

>> No.10821574

No it's not worth it. The taste is horrible.

Pros
-Trendy - all your faggot friends will be impressed
- Good for the profits of pod companies.
- Easy enough to use that even mongs like you all can't fuck it up (but some of you will)

Cons:
- None of them heat the water hot enough
- None of them brew the coffee long enough
- The water reservoirs are mold factories
- The fucking things break within a year
- Everything about them is overpriced as fuck

Fuck Keurigs. They make better coffee than Starbucks? Pretty low fucking bar to reach there - 7-11 has better coffee than Starfucks.

Kettle. Good, fresh beans. French press or gravity filter. Good coffee. It's not fucking rocket science.

You pussies probably pour a shit ton of powered fake milk and sugar into it anyway, or drink some faggoty flavored coffee, so it doesn't matter anyway, you just drink swill in the first place.

Get a good electric grinder (Baratza), a scale and an aeropress. You can make great coffee in one minute with an aeropress. Follow instructions online (Bluebottle) to ensure you brew it correctly.

Use Zephyr or Volvic water to brew the coffee. Coffee is over 98% water and in order to extract flavor oils, you need the proper amount of minerals.

For the guy using the French Press, you need to grind coarse or it will taste muddy.

For the guy using the brewer with thermos attached, those machines do not brew hot enough. You need to make sure your automatic brewer brews at the correct temperature (Technivorm are good).

To the guy with the automatic machine, most automatic machines produce garbage coffee because they cannot grind fine enough, do not brew at the correct temperature and the plastic brew chamber inside does not have enough pressure.

V1 Keurig machines do not brew hot enough and brew too fast, so coffee is weak and under-extracted. Additionally, it's not healthy to drink hot plastic (you want bitch tits?).

To the guys promoting nestle single-serve and instant... no, life is too short to drink garbage like this.

Cold brew is amazing if done right, but it takes more beans to brew so it costs more per cup.

>> No.10822212

If you're worried about drinking out of plastic, use a glass French Press. Just be sure to empty the press into another container after brewing to prevent over-extraction (bitterness).

Just an FYI. K-Cups are not instant coffee in the traditional sense. The coffee used is ground by specialized industrial grinders to make it super fine (the finest grind of any coffee type I believe) for quicker and more efficient processing through the machine.

Fun fact: K-Cup roasts are optimized for 5.5 oz. Per brew. If you use just one K-Cup for anything beyond that 5.5, you're doing it wrong and the coffee will be watered down.

That grinder is okay, virtuoso is better.

Aeropress is correct, but do not brew by their included instructions, go to bluebottle site.

You can use any kettle to boil the water but the quality of water is important.

Don't forget a small scale... brew ratio is very important. If you underextract it will be tea like and/or sour, overextract and it will be heavy and bitter, get it right and it will taste sweet and fruity.

Don't plunge the press all the way down, just below the surface slightly so you avoid disturbing the sediments. Also don't pour it out completely, mud and all.
