I don't really read books very much.
I've skimmed a bit of one of those O'Reilly's books -- Python for Finance
Mainly for the section on using pandas for series data.

I think the last book that I read in entirety was How to Win Friends and Influence People.
I read at least 3/4 of The Art of War, and then I started The Power of Habit.
I prefer learning by doing a bit more, but you've made me realize that I should try to get back into reading actual books.

Swing trader mostly. Usual chart setup:

>bollinger bands
>CCI (mainly for entries)
>MACD
>Stochastic RSI (mainly for exits as a leading indicator of the MACD direction)
>RSI
>will check moving averages occasionally just to make sure stock isn't about to encounter some moving average related problem level. Bbands have the 20 day as center line by default.

I use 4hr, daily, and weekly candles. If i'm about to make an entry or exit within an hour, I will consult shorter time frames and level 2 just to confirm i'm not going to get dumped on instantly.

everything is natural, even these chemicals that are synthetic and billions of dollars spent to R&D still have natural derivatives that are ultimately natural in origin.

Nature is cyclical, look at everything, insects are the greatest way to watch nature, they have cycles. The cicada has a cycle that takes years, and mother nature well it is cruel. The bugs get eaten which gives birth to larger populations, which end up fighting and the top dominating species reign supreme. This species ends up producing too much off spring during the cycle and ends up having a harsh future as they ultimately resort to cannibalism.

exodus reads exactly like a military commander's personal journal if youre looking for a good one to read (or read a wikipedia summary about)
the book of Job also reads like a legal argument, with the devil acting as a prosecutor

and sampson and elisha regularly murdered hundreds in the bible too
elisha even summoned bears to come from the forests to kill "42 youths"
sampson just used a donkeys jawbone to kill "1000 men" on one occasion

and its hard to namefag, when its an absolute cancer on 99% of boards on 4chan

plus between anon and phone posting its easier to deflect criticism ;)

Well aside from permanent cognitive effects from recreational high doses (I'm assuming you don't take 100mg or more a day?) Almost year long withdrawal effects if you finally reach a point where you don't need to take them (like retireing )
And perminent lowered energy levels , and enthusiasm in general, for the rest of their lives
I assume it's from being young when they start and old when they stop though, but only people I know who take it do so recreationally, so it's hard to know if it's applicable if you use low doses regularly, instead of huge doses randomly

I don't mind getting fat or thin or losing muscle, because that can be fixen in a few months with behavior changes
But fucking with nervous or endocrin system? That sounds way more dangerous to me
So I'm curious about what other people have noticed, after long term use

So I'm not saying TSLA won't tank tomorrow, I probably see it losing more price. This is not meant to alter it.

The problem right now in Auto industry is pretty systemic. The dealership model is on the decline as EV is coming in. A huge source of margin for a dealer is service and EV require far less service and pay less for service. It's a simpler machine. There have been a lot of talks about this but you can see some here:

https://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/01/science/electric-car-auto-dealers.html

There is a huge structural problem with this that all auto companies are going to run into. If the dealers can't stay afloat in an EV world to begin with they are triple fucked by automated fleets.

You can't look at what's going on in Autos over the next 1-2 years and see anything but completely FUCKED in the asshole raw with razor blades to all of them. Literally every single one.

Tesla MIGHT be the exception as structurally they are most orientated towards this future. The question mark is on their automation and taxi fleet plans. If Tesla had a partner like Google, Apple, etc they would be a $500 company overnight. Just a partnership, not a buyout as they would be much more likely to be on the other side of the switchover to EV/Automation.

But, GM/Ford/VW are all places you do not want to put a dollar. There is no way they transition without immense and deep pain.

Glut in market. The next problem is simply a glut oversupply of vehicles that exist. Let's assume waymo or autonomous taxi services start taking off. What demand is there for new ICE vehicles? You have used cars building up, existing owners who no longer want to pay insurance / monthly fees.

ETC.

The big problem I think is that Elon Musk is not focusing on taxi fleets enough. While I think the market does want this to be the case. Look at waymo valuation. Tesla should be focusing on high cost, premium, taxi viable fleets. The cost per car hardly matters, see Waymo's high cost sensors, if you are gaining market share in the taxi market.

If they refocus or partner into taxi fleets the valuation goes much higher than a simple build and sell car company. The whole idea of consumers putting their car into Tesla's fleet service is stupid as fuck. It should be exclusive, fuck the consumer, and ran by Tesla and maybe a partner.

This very simple switch of focus is all they should care about. Car Dealerships, Car Ownership, etc is not the future. Future is fucking owning the peasants, owning the car, and offering it as a service. The big advantage of waymo+tesla or apple+tesla is simply in having a large EV fleet ready earlier than your competitor. Since EV is the future having the charging/infrastructure all sound and working is nice edge in what will be a massive market opportunity.

Tesla still has potential but it needs to refocus and get a partner asap to ensure it's positioning in the fleet future. That is unless the current AI chip is actually that good and they somehow got insane software dev on it to make it competitive or top of the line

>> No.10756156

>>10756121
Any non-ICE or even hybrid has less service costs and less visits to dealership. It's why dealerships will guide customers away from them or put higher retail sale margins on them.

Dealerships in an EV world will have to raise prices and get a bigger cut in the initial sale to stay alive. Meaning competitive advantage improves for non-dealership EV companies.

It's a minor thing but you should listen to dealership industry people talk about it. They are already facing margin squeezes due to online competition. Very tough to see dealerships existing how they do now in the future with double threat of EV and Taxi Fleets.

>> No.10756179

The TLDR: Don't invest in Autos or Dealerships at all. Both are facing gamestop levels of "doom".

Apple, Google, etc are better ways to play autos than auto companies with way better peripheral bonuses since their fleet stuff is not even priced in.

Why softbank is fucking stupid in one easy explanation

They are investing in GM, a car company, for autonomous driving future.

The current "good looking" portion of GM is making cars, largely ICE, which is going to shit the bed in an autonomous world.

Google, a software focused company, is doing autonomous vehicles. When autonomous vehicles do well the rest of google's business will do even better. It can leverage having ownership of people's vehicles to get much more money out of it per trip.

So they invested in GM, a worse software company, for software that will kill GM's rest of business.

Doesn't make any sense. Tesla needs to cement itself for a taxi fleet future. They are clearly in the EV sector already and cemented in that. They just need to branch into the space of fleet securely.

Toyota would not offer that. Last I heard on Toyota they had invested some billions into autonomous tech but it's not really that strong.

To understand it. Tesla makes good smart phones right now but needs to cement an android operating system / IOS behind the vehicle. It's unclear how good their AI chip is.

If they are doing FP8 specific technology and Keller did some whiz job I'd still want to see them partner with someone big to help make that even better.

Tesla solo makes no sense. They have a valuable hardware platform, they have some nice chip tech. They have some infrastructure in place with chargers/service centers.

They just need 1 key component to cement themselves. Right now they are not cemented in. They would cap their future value by doing such a partnership but it could be best for stability.

It would also take a software partner understanding the potential value which is harder now with the last few months of craziness.

Just a question. But how is the current status of non-tesla auto companies better?

Do they have advantageous battery deals? 1/3rd cost of EV. Are they making money off EV? Do they have better distribution network for EV in dealerships?

On the autonomous side we don't know what Keller cooked up or what their chip is capable of. It being FP8 is probably a big advantage. That being said the autonomous drive side is their most insecure point of failure right now. Which could be alleviated, it's simply unknown.

On autonomous side, their M3 performed the best when recently tested at staying in lane. What you are comparing it to is prototype testing ala waymo etc. Which is not the same as for instance Waymo uses human intervention via remote driver centers to handle tricky situations.

We won't know whether TSLA's autonomous is BS or not until we see their Keller designed ASIC perform. I don't think that is 100% chance so it's very uncertain but does have potential.

Also AI is not an incremental advantage via time thing. Start ups and months old approaches beat years old projects routinely. It's very much different and harder to predict.

"With EVs, there will be less dollars available to the dealer," says Wally Burchfield, vice president of U.S. aftersales for Nissan North America.

UBS analysts estimate that aftersales revenue for the Bolt, for such things as replacement parts, will be 60 percent less — about $400 a year — than such revenue for a traditional car.

This is things Dealerships are on top of and know about. Tesla's service logistics and issues are a unique situation within EV and under a magnifying glass.

>they are selling very expensive cars
no point to this sentence
>They don't have advantages
They actually do. Dealership model that uniquely works with EV structurally is one. Another is being entirely EV orientated already with the other companies have not done. They have better integration with battery cell production via doing the battery packs and partnership with panasonic.
The rest of advantages are non-structural such as brand value and potential of software/chip products (uncertain).

The existing ICE companies have to do a large transition as you said which will take time, reposititioning, and re-structuring of dealership models.

In addition the volume of cars is less important in an autonomous future. Making a lot of ICE does not translate to EV due to battery supply crunch. Glut due to autonomous demand, etc.

The idea of ICE companies undercutting EV market is pretty funny though. They all sell at loss right now and the EV's from those companies are drying up in demand.

Tesla has potential in the long-run still especially if they deliver on Standard battery cost cutting measures, aka a lighter standard M3.

The story isn't over yet. I do see decline in share price on Monday though is most likely.

Battery capacity is not the issue, there will literally be a massive lithium shortage if they start pumping out batteries as planned. Already about half the world's supply of lithium is used in batteries, and the majority of that is in electronics like phones and laptops. These EVs require hundreds of times more weight in lithium per unit.

Fat tail risk is rare, not a very high chance.

Even then, if you're trading TSLA options, you better have a large amount of capital to withstand fluctuations. 99% on this board don't have that capital.

Not really. I would waver towards playing the bear side of the argument this week. Not that even that is a sure thing or high %.

The long term bull argument is dependent on upcoming uncertainty. You can't say for sure right now.

Paradoxically, though, the main challenge for lithium right now is oversupply. The materials intelligence service Metal Bulletin this month blamed “sluggish demand from downstream buyers” for an ongoing fall in the spot price of battery-grade lithium carbonate this year.

In China, the world’s largest consumer of lithium carbonate, the price of the material has dropped by more than 44 percent since December 2017, from ¥180,000 (USD $26,000) down to ¥100,000 ($14,500) per ton, Metal Bulletin data shows. Outside China, prices have leveled off.

The tail on this trade is fatter than the head and the market doesn't realize it. The IV on the options is huge, but it is still mispriced. The risk here is not statistical, it is factual if you do the research. This stock is a powder keg that could blow at any moment.

The bear hope is CH11 in sept for bigger(x500) payouts rather than CH7 in Nov for smaller(x100) payouts. What I would not like as a bear is if Elon goes into "Rehab" and the stock dives for 150 but sits there for two months while everyone figures out the company is bankrupt. This company is going under and the only thing keeping it afloat is retail baggies picking up stocks from institutions who are dumping. As soon as baggies stop buying, its falling like a knife.

Do you guys just pick an industry to focus on and fill your bags then trade options / futures or do you go through multiple sectors?

If it's fact, then why hasn't it happened yet? Even if price moves 100 pts tomorrow, it can move 60 pts the other way the next day. All you need to do is have enough capital to realize theta decay. Most people here don't have that kind of capital.

Market is already pricing in buyout deal at some negative multiple. Market is pricing in Elon Musk instability at some level, that can get worse easily.

The public is still somewhere positive sentiment on Tesla so that can change and might have increased marginally.

I think the general trajectory is down on price though with potential negative catalysts like news from saudis, Bod, or something else black swan.

volatility to upside still exists too but nothing short of a black swan event would catalyze it immediately.

You guys realize the CEO committed securities fraud and the company is facing lawsuits that WILL bankrupt it, right? No one is touching this steaming turd, the stock is worth less than 0 right now. Liabilities exceed assets.Everything points to this. Hell, they have started shutting down the assembly plant at noon.

It is going down, the only question is when. If they want the business to have any future at all, it has to be CH11. If they wait any longer is has to be CH7 and the business will be liquidated.
