He knew because it was an obvious bubble. Even after he sold at (near) the top it took a while to bleed out. He warned everyone before he sold, then he warned it could go to $20. He must have made at least $100 million when he dumped.

He also claims it will go above the ATH again at some point before he entirely quits being involved with LTC. [But it won't if everyone stops caring about crytpo in general, which looks possible] He has also warned people that there is too much speculation with LTC and that too few wallets own so much of it. (Something that is out of his control [and is out of control in any barely regulated, decentralized system], and was one of his alleged reasons for dumping).

Charlie and Vitalik are one of the few "legitimate" players as far as crypto goes. They are genuinely interested in engineering/finance problems and have a somewhat traditional education/work resume to back that up. Air quotes for "legitimate" since they obviously have made bagholders out of some people.

They definitely have an "engineer" way of looking at things. "The price will go to shit probably. This is a bubble. Bear market for years. My coin is overpriced. People aren't using my coin, they're speculating with it." Plebbit users were complaining about him "hurting the coin" by saying this - he was just simply telling the truth and if you're too dumb to dump when he tells you then you deserve everything you get.

A total scamcoin artist will just tell you "YOURE GOING TO BE RICH, YOURE SMARTER THAN EVERYONE! BUY MY SHIT OR ELSE STAY POOR! BTC IS GARBAGE BUT PLOX GIB ME YOUR BTC!" you don't hear this from Charlie or Vitalik much [ever, that I can recall].

Charlie even tells people they should have BTC as their #1, or to look at Monero - even while he is promoting LTC or being interviewed about it.
