Take out meaning you're picking up from restaurant yourself? No, never. Tips are for table service or delivery. No tip if you're picking up an order at the counter. Do you tip when you buy fast food? Cause that would be the equivalent.

They're more often than not based around the economic realities of wherever in the world you happen to be.

In freedom land, you're expected to tip, because the slave labor have reduced wages with the expectation that there will be tipping, and if they're doing such a shit job they don't get any tips, then they need to look for employment elsewhere.

In scandinavia, tipping is considered a fucking insult, and everybody would look at you in disgust if you reached for your wallet to tip the slave labor who brought you your food.

In the semi-civilized parts of africa, tips aren't actually tips like in US of A. Rather, they are actual tips, which you'd only offer if you consider that you've been served exceptionally well.
