>Ethereum and similar smart-contract systems have limited utility for two main reasons, according to Song. First, the network’s rules generally require that every node execute every smart contract—that’s how the network reaches consensus. “Even when you have 100,000 nodes, the capacity of the network is still the same as one node,” she says. That severely constrains its performance. Second, today’s smart contracts can’t assure the confidentiality of sensitive data. Blockchains were built to be transparent! That’s why so many theoretical blockchain applications are still stuck on the drawing board.

Skimmed over the whitepaper and they specifically mention that their secure smart contracts are implemented using SGX right now, though they 'may use any [trusted execution environment]' .

We already know Chainlink can utilize SGX, likely for similar reasons as this project. I would expect the link team could develop new adapters for other TEEs if necessary, just like this Oasis team seems to be planning.

Right now this strikes me more as some affirmative action bolstered johnny-come-latelys trying to catch the caboose of the gravy train, rather than a total BTFO of Link.

>from ekiden's whitepaper
>Ekiden uses compute nodes to perform smart contract computation
over private data off chain in TEEs, then attest to their correct
execution on chain. The underlying blockchain is maintained by
consensus nodes, which need not use trusted hardware. Ekiden is
agnostic to consensus-layer mechanics, only requiring a blockchain
capable of validating remote attestations from compute nodes. Ekiden
can thus scale consensus and compute nodes independently
according to performance and security needs

Pfffhahaha you have no clue what you're talking about.

Chainlink uses "nodes" the same way as Ekiden, but Ekiden only uses hardware enclaves off-chain, while Chainlink does decentralized oracles AND hardware enclaves off-chain.

This project and LINK do not seek to do the same thing in any capacity. Really, Oasis Labs' project is a direct competitor to Ethereum or other smartcontract ready blockchains like ADA or NEO. Chainlink is NOT A FUCKING BLOCKCHAIN PROTOCOL FOR SMART CONTRACTS. It's middleware for interfacing between smart contract platforms and existing data API. That's it. There is no way this project "fucks CL". In fact, CL's oracle is currently being developed to run in a secure execution environment, the same as the one being described by Song and exemplified/developed by Ari Juels. It is entirely possible that this Oasis blockchain will be able to leverage the chainlink oracle network. It's not a competitor.
