You ever played GTA with the cheats on? Well that's what it feels like "making it". It might be fun and exciting at first but eventually it gets boring, it may take a couple of hours or maybe a week but it DOES get stale. It's way more rewarding to play the game properly and actually earn the money/weapons.

That's exactly what it feels like making it with crypto, you don't feel like you've earned it and it WILL get stale after a while whether it takes a couple of months or 5 years. Why do you think lottery winners end up depressed and committing suicide?

It's about the journey not the destination. It took "making it" to realize.

Small minded idiots who think money is everything.

OP is correct. Lots of money does not lead to a fulfilling life. Getting up in the morning with nothing to do does not lead to a fulfilling life. The way to a fulfilling life is to build or to grow something. To have long term goals that you make your way towards.

This is why billionaires stay at their companies even though they could easily retire. This is why some normies unironically "love their jobs". And this is why good women raising families feel fulfilled meanwhole roastie riding the carousel feel unfulfilled.

If nobody had to wagecuck, society would fail incredibly quickly, but not because of the reason you tbink

This is the problem with today's society. We only value money, not the freedom money brings. Yes, having nice things is better than having shitty ones, but having Lambos and bullshit purely for the purpose of "flexing" or proving your personal value is literally nigger-tier. Anyone whose dreams of making it end at a purchase are people with no dreams, slaves to the consumerist system and debt cycle. Truly making it requires creation of something that transcends yourself and your own subjective experience, something that can be shared with others and shape the future.

I made enough from Crypto to not have to work. In Oct it will have been 1 yr since I have worked a salary job.

I don’t have enough money to travel all the time or buy nice things though

So untlimatley I just stay at home. It kind of sucks as all my friends still work and you will get bored. I kill my time with Spanish and flying lessons. Without that little structure I would feel very depressed.

I do like doing stuff in the middle of the day like movies and shopping. No traffic or hoard of people. So much I don’t even leave the home on weekends. It isn’t as nice as I expected so who knows where I’ll be in another year

This anon is basically me.

I've "made it" during the bull run in Dec 2017. Decided to quit my job on Nov 2017 until now. 9 months of nothing consistently productive, feels boring as fuck. I have long list of hobbies I'd like to revisit, but during this non-wage time, I have done nothing. Seems like the dullness have been crippling inside me slowly and its spreading very quickly. First 3 months of non-wagie was awesome. After that, I don't feel much passion to do anything anymore, cuz I have what I need to live, why should I bother doing any work. At least that's what I think. I kind woke to this recently since most of my normie wagie friends knew already that I don't do anything at home other than sleep and fap. It's pretty depressing but I can still get hold of it. OP is right, crypto bull run really feels like "cheating" in life. You don't deserve the money you earn, but the way you handle your life is more important that that.

I think a lot of other people want exceptionally secured and passive income at a high level. They don't want to get a lump sum and live off of it, they want to get enough financial assets or passive income that they can sustain simultaneously grow their net worth, live off of "free" money and do anything they want. Even 2.5 mil at 7-8% interest a year would be giving you 200,000 dollars. Throw around 50k back into the account to keep up with a 2% inflation rate. You get 150k minus income taxes (in my area that could put you roughly at 100k). Take another 20-30k a year and slot it into some bonds. Now live off of your 70k. If there is ever a downturn that decreases your 7-8% returns on the market, live off of your savings in the bond market. If there is ever a really good year, depending on your appetite for risk, put more back into the bond market or more back into your stock portfolio.

I didn't mean I would be withdrawing my 2.5 million slowly, timing my last dollar to the minute of my death.

My 2.5 million would be invested in blue chip dividend stocks and bonds and CDs. I'm only aiming for a 3% return. 7-8% is unsustainable and I do not expect to get it. In fact the 3% gains I'm aiming for hoping to withdraw needs to be closer to 5-6% to keep up with inflation.

Ideally my 2.5 million would be producing 3% dividends and its those dividends that I would be withdrawing. They would give me the 70k per year I'd be living off of, and hopefully my 2.5 million amount remains untouched and never has to decrease. I'm basically trying to live off of the interest.

I do. Some years during the past bull run SPY can be up 20%. That’s more than a year’s income (at the 7-8% goal) you can shove into a safer bond portfolio for a downturn. You’ll need it, not only for bad years that either show no growth or less growth, but also to weather several years after a recession. You ideally don’t want to dig into any gains on your stock portfolio again until it has at least reached where it was before the recession to retain your value.

Even with a recession, if you stick to your plan of only withdrawing 7% from your gains, you can take the hits and continue to live modestly as you said.

You don't need money to do this, and yet, you're fat, unfit, have no social skills.

I think “making it” for me is not having a mortgage hanging over my head for 30 years and not feeling trapped by the banks and government. Having money to invest to make more money. I’d still work, but be living with a lot less stress.

So being rich, going out to clubs and fucking hot club broads gets boring? That sounds fucking awesome. All these male actors and celebrities still do it. But I guess they have day jobs that are enjoyable to fill the time I guess.

> Its about the journey not the destination.

Why can't getting money be just a step on the journey? Think scarface, first the money, then power, then woman, then lineage.

That's why you need some other goal after money. Like mastering a skill or completing a cool project. Having money can help give you the free time to pursue stuff like that.

If I get enough to retire, I'd take up judo and boxing.

I don't understand either. Per this:>>10624111 I did a rough calculation according to SPY if you had entered at the opening price in January of 2007, and your profit taking condition was ONLY the closing price of January 1st of the next year. If it is above the last price at which you sold, you sell, if not, you hold. By this standard, you'd be holding from 2007 through 2011. In 2012 you'd make your first profit, close to 9%. Every year except 2015 (dipping into your savings to live) you'd make a profit. If we are take the worst case scenario and just assumed your effective tax rate approached the top marginal rate (we'll just say 39% for prior years), and if you deduct ~50k for each year to cover 2% inflation, you deduct 70k from total capital gains after taxes for every year from 2012 when you started turning a profit, you'd have a savings of around 461k (in bonds?) and your account would be $2.75mil. So you'd be able to sustain your 70k lifestyle while having enough savings to cover 6 years in which your profit taking condition wasn't met.

many people in this thread fail to understand the concept of making it and what to do after. really it's simple. after self actualizing, you self transcendatlize. meaning you help others self actualize.

basically, once you make it, the way to not feel bored and enjoy life is to help other people make it. whether it be through money or mentoring others.

This also isn't including dividends of course, which for SPY is what, 1.7%? But over the years you were taking profit even if you didn't include dividends, your average yearly return from 2007 to 2017 would've been about 8%.

Another weak minded individual here. How about people pay you for your mentoring skills or the more money you make the more money you can charge for your time.

My thing is I really don't care about money that much. I don't budget or anything. I set aside enough to cover bills and toss some into ETFs and crypto. The rent I just spend, not sure what balance is but I've never run out just from going to restaurants and Kroger. I want to make it so I don't have to work. I am a neet at heart and never wanted to rat race. The shit I do in my free time is infinitely more valuable than anything a worker drone does, even if it's unfulfilling stuff like nursing or teaching. In order to make it you have to know what making it means. Some people, like op, will never understand. Their brains just can't even begin to grasp these concepts.

Biggest mistake. I would have cashed out everything earlier and avoided losing more, but I didn't want to tell them how much lower it was, so I kept waiting for a bounce. It can mess with your emotions if other people know how much you're investing/trading.
