These guys are all recruited via universities arent they?
Theyd get a far better return out of somebody like me for sure financially, the real cost to them would be emotional in nature as they struggle with the implications of hiring outwith their peers.
Theyve an ingrained premise of moral and intellectual superiority to uphold at all costs, they want to believe only they are capable of saving the lesser peoples outside the temple, only the most indoctrinated believe it genuinely.
Recruiting mercenaries would only shine a light on their own place in the food chain, which is unthinkable.
