It's an API exchange for smart contracts. It can handle converting any type of currency for a plethora of goods, esepcially anything with a QR code. It doesn't even need crypto, but it will have it.

Today's cmc hack is the perfect example of why link is needed. Can you imagine smart contract CFDs based on cmc's centralized Oracle fucking everyone over today. The same principal applies to everything from commodity prices to flight insurance.

This microcosm exemplifies an issue with relying on oracles and immutable smart contracts - even utilizing a decentralized oracle network doesn't 100% protect contract users from getting completely F'd if the source of information (API) is inaccurate. From what I understand, consensus/aggregation protocols at the oracle layer is some defense against this, but I'm not sure how the aggregation could be handled in such a way that is completely protected from this kind of inaccuracy. For example, if the aggregation was merely producing an 'average' value across multiple oracles, and one of those oracles was producing its value from CMC when it experienced this bug, the average would still be dramatically affected.

>> No.10542953

The smart contracts will need to be designed. But you could easily make it that the outlier source if you have say 4 sources is discarded. Or that the contract is delayed until the sources are within a certain range of one another.
