Because he does like 20-30 of these appearances a year and makes an income of like $2-3MM annually working a max of 30 days. You wouldn't do that? He enjoys speaking, and it helps fund Hill's political adventures. The Clinton's are rich but not ridiculously so. They live in a generic upper class community about 45 min outside NYC where doctors and lawyers who make like $500k/year live. I have a relative who lives down the block from them and a good friend who works for the democratic party and has sat at $1,000/plate dinner tables with them multiple times. What do you think people get paid in this world? Even the most relevant musicians usually don't make more than $100k/show.

Presidents get rich but compared to corporation owners or even most celebs they don't really make a ton. Trump might be an exception since he's clearly utilizing his time in office trying to build business connections and set up direct wealth transfers for himself/his family... but many Preisdents were focused on doing a job for the people and while they of course have acquaintances in high places, rich people don't owe each other anything and once you're not President you can't do anyone any favors they need anyway. My girlfriends father makes millions/year but his BEST friend is a multibillionaire. While he has worked on a couple of development projects with this friend, he's not getting handouts. He does all the hard work and only makes back the proportionate amount of whatever he invested. His friend takes home the big bucks on every project because he put the big bucks in. In business at that level nobody is going to just give you money because they like you or because you were once President. Bill Clinton has to work for his money like everyone else.
