The "0 link required to run a node" wasn't a big deal at all because of the reputation/collateral system. But now, they've revealed that that system can be totally bypassed by the companies we were banking to use our nodes, the token has far less potential value now. I'm talking about a small fraction of what it could've been. $1000 eoy is dead.

This was misrepresented to us since the inception of Chainlink. It's something that should lead to a class-action. By misrepresenting the necessity of the token under potential widespread adoption of the network, smartcontracts.com inflated the value of the token. I think this was deliberate. don't believe Sergey, Rory, or Steve were behind this, but probably some of the other developers intentionally leaving out this piece of information that it crucial to the staking system. I believe this was done so these developers could sell the tokens they were paid in for a higher value. We were duped. And that is just a theory, but it is either that or they are wildly incompetent at informing potential node operators.

No, it was just recently revealed. It was unclear (but generally mentioned by the team as being totally decentralized) how nodes would be selected and how exactly the reputation system would be determined, but now we know. It appears that the network will be largely centralized around companies and their nodes (with 0 link staked) with a very small decentralized chunk consisting of random node operators with Link staked and the original reputation system in place. The use case for the latter will be miniscule.

You really dont get it do you.
You have no come back using "the reputation of some other company".. how do you know the contract wont be so big that its in their interest to fudge the data?

Also.. suppying the data and writing the data to the blockchain are two completely different but both necessary processes. Falsifying the data at the API level is really hard, a single node (oracle) writing the data is much easier to falsify.
Hense the need for a decentralised oracle network.

Even though that might be the case, you're not going to want to use only one company's nodes. You are going to want to use nodes all over the world. You should be able to put a higher valuation on trustworthy nodes. So for instance you use 1000 nodes, but you want to give google's nodes a higher valuation than jo blo's node. You're still going to use jo blo's node because the whole point of chainlink is decentralization, but you realize that jo blo's node has a higher risk. And jo blo can increase the valuation of his node by staking link in it, but it isn't necessarily in his interest to stake link in his node because there is risk involved. If his node goes down then he is shit out of luck.

for real though if link is worth 1 dollar and it's a million dollar contract they probably want something like 500,000 dollars worth of link in collateral or maybe even less, depending on whatever the contract needs and is requesting. so if someone is holding 20k link and link ends up being worth 1000 link, those nodes have a significant amount of capital to put up on these contracts as collateral

1 thing Stinkers haven't taken into account is the competition

Oracleize may be shit, but there are other projects that will give Link a run for its money

Only link holders are so deluded to think their coin will be the next BTC or ETH

Of course, who really knows at this point. It has first mover advantage so we'll have to see what happens, maybe they're really working with big players and that could lead to massive gains

Even then, it will take a miracle for link to gain the hype it needs to moon, no marketing means no gains

Oracles will be important, but probably not to the point where Link shillers delude themselves into believing, take everything with a grain of salt.

You'll have to make a decision to join the linky cult and drink the koolaid or buy coins that will actually go somewhere, don't spend all your money on memes

>Speculation that main net is in September
You mean some random anons were spamming it like they spammed July 30th and it became speculation?

This is stupid mainnet isn't until 2019 at the earliest.

Not correct, many events are coming up in September and the team has stated as they approach main net they will add marketing team, they just did that.

They've been working on this problem for longer than you've known about cryptocurrency. They have more funding than any organization on the planet. They hire the best devs on this planet. They have first mover advantage. Zeppelin_OS is utilizing chainlink, and what do you know, zeppelin_os is 95% of smart contracts. Tell me again how they don't have a monopoly u fucking idiot.

It has to actually be selling a working product or providing g a service to have a monopoly. They’re the first. It’s unclear how well Link will even work, if it works at all, or if people will truly care about decentralized oracles vs centralized ones.

The biggest problem is that before any of that can even work, you first need a smart contract platform to scale and be adopted for actual smart contracts. So far, ETH is painfully slow and expensive. EOS and Tron are jokes. No other serious competitor has deployed yet. Personally, I predict Holo will be the one to dominate this area the same way Google dominates search engines, but they have another solution baked in that doesn’t necessarily need oracles.

Then... and even if all of these big “ifs” come to pass and the price starts to go parabolic... you still have 2/3 of the supply not even on the market yet to flood it and drive prices down.

This is from Oracles announcement of their cloud service

Centralization?

A natural question is if all nodes are on Oracle’s cloud, then how do they achieve decentralization? The answer is that the nodes don’t all have to be on Oracle’s cloud, they could be on Azure, Amazon AWS or elsewhere.

Literally the only thing linking these clouds together will be chainlink, requesting secure verifiable data via APIs that’s why you see docusign being supported on every platform. I really think this is the only decentralized thing they are using. Plus maybe hyperledger, although I don’t know how decentralized that is exactly if it’s permissioned.

Could trade skins using smart contracts, making it trustless and not having to rely on steam or some other party to handle the transaction. Link will pull off-chain data into on-chain decentralised smart contracts through its decentralised oracles.

>> No.10452666

>>10451709

Pretty accurate. But I think a dominant platform for smart contracts is when, not if. I’m sure chainlink will adapt as needed.

>> No.10452864

>>10446444
Indeed. There may be some use cases where private 0 LINK node networks make sense, probably in the context of a permissioned ledger for internal recordkeeping/accounting. But for cross-party contracts, the whole point is you don't want to have to trust any single entity to be telling the truth. They'll need to use 3rd-party oracle nodes, otherwise it's like trying to settle a boxing bet where only one party has access to the news. Recipe for a bad time.

The reason why chainlink will work, the monetary incentives for companies to use it. That 650m stack is going to be given to a bunch of high ranking companies. If holo is free or not they could careless. Imagine gifting these companies 30% in savings plus a whole stack of free cash where the coupon and cash is only viable as long as you and your buds use it. Theres a double dip in this for companies. There's almost no reason to decline, and if everyone is using it more companies will just implement it. Watch SWIFT unveil it and pass billions of dollars through this network. It's literally an ad campaign. It's in their best interest to push the network out asap. What do you think SWIFT wants them to do, SERGEY TELL THEM WE GOT YOUR BACK. No of course not. SWIFT wants to sell them their links at a way higher price than .25 per link.SWIFT needed the ICO to make a "decentralized network" and make it seem open source. This is going to be the biggest financial system ever created, and this will be pushed on other countries where we dont know what the fuck is happening in their countries. The governments want to see open banking, and SWIFT is already implementing in a bunch of countries, this is their best interest.

tldr; CHAINLINK IS LITERALLY PRINTED MONEY.
