>getting a job is easy if you just walk in and ask to speak to the manager, look him in the eyes and give him a strong handshake
Why do boomers give this awful advice?

That's what I did and I got the job (because my GM is a boomer.)

Because when they were looking for work, it was true. In the future, the advice you or I give to younger generations based on our experienecs will likely be equally irrelevant.

I had just returned from the war and I showed up at the factory in my paintball gear. Manager asked, are you a veteran young man? Yeah so what if I am boss man? Want a job? Yeah I can start tomorrow. I've been GM of the whole plant ever since I make $300,000 a year but I feel like retiring soon since my mortgage is paid off

wow does being a "vet" for 4 years in a war do that? I'm gonna sign up! Thanks shlomo, don't you love militarized-communism so much?

This actually does work if its a small/medium sized business like place (i.e. not a corporate shithole).

>> No.10433971

I actually did this and it worked. It was a minimum wage job though, obviously you don't do that for an actual career.

Because the advice actually does work. I hear people bitch about not being able to find jobs all the time and don't get it. At no point in my life have I ever not been able to find work, from high school McDicks jobs to my big boy jobbie. And all I've ever done is walk in with an app/resume as appropriate, ask to speak to the manager, shake his hand and tell him that I'd love for the opportunity for an interview. I'd say just doing that, you've got a 25% chance of getting an interview on the spot.

Getting a job is like getting a girlfriend if you're not Chad -- it's just a numbers game. Managers get stacks of applications from all kinds of people they don't know shit about. Showing up, letting them see your face, and giving some indication that you want it more than the rest of the nameless hordes gives you a much better shot.

That's how I got my locksmith apprenticeship. Made my resume the same colors as their company, dressed up nicely, and walked in.

Got my first job in high school doing this. Walked into a Safeway and did exactly as boomer-meme said, and the guy took my resume and said he'd call me back.

Started at $16.50 / hour as a union cashier. Job was boring, but for a 16 year old, it was great money working 16-24 hours per week (weekends and evenings).

This was of course, back when it was considered necessary for teenagers to have part time jobs as part of character building.

Those times are gone. Now you just marry the state for handouts.
