HOW? How do you guys force yourself to save money? I have so much I want to buy to improve myself and my life. But mostly to improve myself.

I also have stuff I believe will improve my productivity. Oil painting materials being one of them. Having a creative hobby is great for downtime.

But now I am broke and little income prospects. Ive done this so many times im starting to think I am psychological problems. Maybe self-hate which I try to make up for by buying things?

Im a freelancer in a shitty niche so feast or famine is a common problem.

Any tips besides

1) Make a quarterly spreadsheet budget including all necessary expenses (rent, cell bill, etc.) as well as estimated and goal expenses for leisure, etc.
2) Add at least two more sheets to this spreadsheet: one for random/leisure expenses and one for work income
3) Inside you wallet, keep a folded notecard. Every time you spend something, write it on the notecard. At the end of each week or every two weeks, add the data from your notecard to your spreadsheet.

The notecard here is key. It helps you keep yourself in check and work toward your savings goals by reminding you not to overspend. The budget helps with that as well, but also gives you an up to date log of what you expect to make, spend, and save, and how you are doing with each of those.

And my random sheet, where I log everything from the wallet notecard

Thank you. Practical advice. I like it. I do have a spreadsheet but I dont have monthly income so I dont use it. My income is more staggered. Hence the feast or famine analogy. I will use the card idea though.
