I'm a classical musician, and I'm thinking about going back to college for classical composition.

I originally got my bachelor's degree in economics, but I want to get formal composition experience

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this a good idea or a waste of time?

Classical composition was my favorite part of music theory classes.

If money was not an issue, I would go back to school and do what I actually enjoy.

Go for it, but you only have like a 10% chance of making a living wage so plan accordingly.

If you can afford it and don't mind sucking eggs for a while, go for it. A handful of my friends from college majored in composition. 10 years later and only one has 'made it' as a professional, and by 'made it' I mean he has to spend over half of his time chasing grants, university teaching opportunities, donations/commissions from wealthy patrons. At the end of the day, his music kind of sucks, largely because he can't afford to write and play (he's a pianist too, what a fucking meme) full time.

If you are a crypto millionaire being a classical composer would be sweet, Think of it, a working pipe organ and the ability to belt out music that sounds like its from dracula!

Message me on kik @ Kabigon54 and lets chat about it.

Is writing music something that anybody can learn or is it a talent that you're born with?

Well there's one upside I can see.
If you do this, you then have the ability to blame the economy for you studying a field with 0 jobs.
You can even grow dreadlocks.
You got that to look forward to don't you little buddy.
