I want an wasy life with lots of freetime. Is accounting a good way to achieve while still not being completely poor?

I'd say your best bet, if going the accountant route, is to graduate and get a job with some accounting firm, apply yourself, and become good and efficient at the job. If you are gifted in accounting and have good work ethic, you have a chance at finishing 8 hours of work in 4 hours. The rest you can fuck away, depending on how many people are looking at your screen.

You can always consider transitioning to some small time job where only 1 accountant is needed. That way, YOU set the expectations. Pretend 4 hours of work takes 8, and they'll believe you.

Thanks for your answer, but how likely is it that I will be unemployed in 10 years?

>> No.10208970

>>10208918
10 Years maybe not but 20 years and you're really starting to push it. Before unemployment I would be afraid of wage declines... Automation of accounting will first take place in big firms, and once they really figure it out they're going to either lay people off, put a freeze on new hires, or a combination of both. Even if you keep your job in 10 years you'll have to live with the pressure of knowing there are 8 people ready to take it for 20% less than what you'd be getting paid.

How autistic are you? Do you have good work ethic? Consider nursing.

Accounting is a competitive field and you are looking at starting work near 60 hours a week sometimes, and the pay is decent, but not great. Might be good after a few years of shit.

you cannot "relax" if you hate what you do every day, even if you get the time down to 4 hours or less

What is a better alternative?

I'm a finance/accounting major.

>> No.10209052

The better alternative would have been to work really hard in school, go above and beyond, apply for internships regularly, and then get a real finance job in NYC. But accounting works. Just make sure you're up to date on the newest tech and software. Make yourself competitive in a highly competitive field.

My ex was an internal auditor doing consulting for Lockheed. She would easily put in 60 hours a week by Thursday and would often be on the Skype meetings and having to do extra work on the weekends. Which would easily put her close to 80 by the end of the week. She got paid pretty well, low 6 figures, but genuinely hated the work. If you don't value your free time and don't mind working 60+ hours a week, go for it. Otherwise, I'd advise going into finance where you get paid more for the putting in the same amount of hours.
